Thanks for the party!
I had a great time at the party. Thanks for hosting it (e:pmt)! Sorry for passing out on your couch. I loved the tasty treats that (e:hodown) made, especially those stuffed figs. Everybody had really great costumes this year. I was happy to get to wear those pants that used to be my favorite but now have paint on them. Being Joey the plumber was way too much fun.

Yay I found the upload button!
(e:mike) looked like this on the first flight heading towards Atlanta. It was my first time flying with him and it was also my worst flight. It was the closest thing to turbulence I have felt. Definitely had my stomach drop and it sounded like the plane was struggling a lot.

This is when he fell in love with Lenny. It was the cutest thing.

Political Costumes
NPR is looking for pictures of people dressed as politicians and or politcally current people. Maybe there will be some political costumes at the party?

james - 10/29/08 19:28
add alcohol and stir!
tinypliny - 10/29/08 18:24
I thought he died in the 1700s? Hmmm... Is Jamraziness* rearing its zombitized** head again?

------------
  • Jamraziness -> James + Craziness (but in a good way, as in tasty JAM. :D)
  • zombitized -> What you become when you miz 3 parts James + 1 part verve + 1.2 pints (E:strip) mania and 6 wriggling worms.
james - 10/29/08 15:44
I will be dressed up as Button Gwinnett. The most popular political costume of the season.

Ron Clark Academy
Seventh graders from Ron Clark Academy perform their "Whatever You Like" by T.I. parody at the Coca-Cola Leadership Summit in Atlanta

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

(McCain supporters)
McCain's the best candidate
With Palin as his running mate
They'll fight for gun rights, pro life,
The conservative right
Our future is bright
Better economy in site
And all the world will feel our military might

(Obama supporters)
But McCain and Bush are real close right
They vote alike and keep it tight
Obama's new, he's younger too
The Middle Class he will help you
He'll bring a change, he's got the brains
McCain and Bush are just the same
You are to blame, Iraq's a shame
Four more years would be insane

Lower your Taxes - you know Obama Won't
PROTECT THE LOWER CLASS - You know McCain won't!
Have enough experience - you know that they don't
STOP GLOBAL WARMING - you know that you won't

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA
Stick with McCain and you're going to have some drama
We need it
HE'LL BRING IT
He'll be it
YOU'LL SEE IT
We'll do it
GET TO IT
Let's move it
DO IT!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

I'm talking big pipe lines, and low gas prices
Below $2.00 that would be nice

But to do it right we gotta start today
Finding renewable ways that are here to stay

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA,
Stick wit McCain you gone have some drama
MORE WAR IN IRAQ
Iran he will attack
CAN'T BRING OUR TROOPS BACK
We gotta vote Barack!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

NFTA fare increase?
NFTA wants to raise their fares to $2 a trip. If the increase does not go through, or the state does not raise their funding, then they will be forced to make cuts in service.

Current bus fares are $1.50 so this would be a 25% increase.
ajay - 10/30/08 12:32
MUNI fares in SF are $1.50 .
But it is subsidised by the City, so maybe that's why the fares are low...
museumchick - 10/27/08 18:54
Albany only charges a dollar as fare for most bus routes. Two dollars can hit people kind of hard if they ride the bus regularly.
metalpeter - 10/24/08 18:08
I read about this some time ago. I think it is in the news again because there is some type of public comments on it and some meeting somewhere and at sometime soon I think. NFTA Claims that they are hurting for money, I know it sounds crazy. But don't they run the Airport and they owned land on the waterfront and to try and save money the bought a lot of new buses. I think where there big cost comes in is Bus Drivers. From what I have heard it is a pretty well paying job. I hope they don't raise the price but I'm sure they will, from what I heard they will do it as a two step program and it won't go up 50 cents right away. The other question is how much will transfers cost and how much will each additional zone cost?
james - 10/24/08 11:01
Well, with the price of gas coming down what are they supposed to do?

Oh ya, the opposite.
mrmike - 10/24/08 09:40
It's pretty greedy and follows the Thruway authority logic. More people have taken to buses, If they were smart, they would hold the line on fares and cut elsewhere, but the NFTA has never been accused of being smart.
matthew - 10/24/08 09:32
I think it's both (e:tinypliny).

That's a huge increase. And didn't the NFTA report a while back an increase in daily riders? Is this all to be blamed on the high price of gas?

When I take the bus I use the tokens (e:terry) gets from work. I'm gonna hold on to them, cause soon they'll be worth the price of gold. It's my new retirement plan!
tinypliny - 10/24/08 09:22
:( Nice while neighbouring Rochester cut their fares to $1/trip and increase bus-frequency recently, Buffalo is going the opposite way. All this frankly makes me think that the priorities of the Buffalo local government are so misplaced. Either that, or they are just plain greedy and corrupt.
