Farmer's market revisited
Category: food
Driving through kenmore this morning i saw thry have a farmers market
too. But I love the bidwell farmer's market and was hoping for honey
sticks so I waited. Sadly, the honey people were not there. I got so
much stuff including flowers, fresh Lima beans in pod ( never saw that
before) sausage, and this awesome zebra aloe plant that is flowering.

I also saw that a lot of the stands accept new York farmers market
checks. What are those?

The lima beans were so good.

Farmers Market checks are part of a NYS nutrition program for low-income families. People receive them in addition to their food stamps or WIC checks usually once or twice during the summer sometime. Here's a link for further info if you're interested in finding out more: :::link:::
tinypliny - 09/06/08 17:45
I don't think I have had fresh Lima beans before either. How different are they from fresh fava beans?
heidi - 09/06/08 15:30
In PA, it means that the farmers' market vendor accepts something similar to food stamps.
paul - 09/06/08 13:52
It's those damn jeans.
mrmike - 09/06/08 13:41
Becker Farms sells honey sticks, regularly. If you are ever driving up that way, it is worth the trip. Their pies rock too.

Microsoft is going to die
Category: microsoft
So apparently, microsoft has lost so much money because of the mac vs PC advertisement series that portrays windows as a dorky, chunky business man and mac as a cute, hipster. In order to combat it, they are coming out with an advertsiment series staring Jerry Seinfeld to help bolster windows vista. This is the first in the series and Seinfeld is being paid $10 million for his work in the series.

I seriously cannot fucking believe how lame it is. I would think this is going to be the death of microsoft. Check it out.

heidi - 09/07/08 00:37
Wow, that's incredibly bad. Who wants to see Bill Gates adjust his shorts???? (e:vincent) is right, the only cool part is that ancient picture of Bill on the superdorks card.

I almost bought a lunix-based UMPC... until I started using OneNote, which I am totally loving. Evil has won the battle. :-( (If it wasn't free from UB, I wouldn't be using it!)

(hmmmm... a little research shows :::link::: Notebook might be an able competitor....)

metalpeter - 09/06/08 15:29
First of all, those Mac Vs. PC adds are awesome and very funny, oh and that actor is in the New Die Hard movie it is on HBO tonight for those who haven't seen it yet.

I don't understand the Microsoft ad my self. I did like it but that is because I thought it was for some shoe place no one had ever heard of then they leave and it is for windows, I don't get it.
tinypliny - 09/05/08 23:57
Here is the rundown -> :::link:::

And I agree, word for word.
tinypliny - 09/05/08 23:35
Heh... He had a very handsome jawline back then. :)
vincent - 09/05/08 23:31
The only cool thing about that commercial is that he used his Mug Shot from 1977 on his Clown Club Card.

tinypliny - 09/05/08 22:45
Of course, if Google releases its long-awaited long-talked-about super-secret opensource OS, then all bets are off. They already have an internal version of the Linux Ubuntu distribution. M$ will surely die then.
tinypliny - 09/05/08 22:41
I am not sure I can even laugh. Its just bizzare.

Microsoft can never die till office of the world (eg. Roswell) don't bow down to its inefficient monopoly and dumb users like me are too scared to jump ship to Linux (because of dumbness and a certain lame laziness and lack of comforting software) and too un-hep to justify the cost of a ultra-elitist Mac.
matthew - 09/05/08 22:40
oh my lord, what crap! One day future historians will look at this ad as the 'end of microsoft'. I swear it!
drew - 09/05/08 22:39
No commercial will ever convince me to buy another Microsoft product.

Next time its either open source or Mac.
tinypliny - 09/05/08 22:37
In the future Windows versions would make the computer an edible cookie.
And we should be excited about Bill Gates getting a better pair of shoes and shorts.
A former comedian with a terrible recent movie helped him see the light.

Exactly. HUH?
paul - 09/05/08 22:36
Appealing in it makes you want to purchase or you laugh because its so ridiculous.
drew - 09/05/08 22:26
I hate microsoft, but the commercial is appealing.
imk2 - 09/05/08 22:26
huh? i don't get it? am i missing something? i think this is too high brow for me.

Thursday in the square
Category: buffalo
I am so fed up with work today. After one of the worst work days
ever, I managed to check out the last Thursday in the Square.
Unfortunately, it is messing with my gym schedule, which is making me
angry.

Why don't they just make Lafayette square a concrete square if it ends up looking like this every year.

image
metalpeter - 09/05/08 18:22
Hope you had a great time.
tinypliny - 09/04/08 20:42
Chill out and Rock out! I am sure you can dance and holler away work blues! :)
(Who is playing?)

Peace out \m/

It's not dead like earlier this year. (E:matthew) says they gave it
steroids.

Fuck the environment, says Roswell
Category: environment
Is what I hear everytime I look in the dumpster at Roswell Park Cancer
Institute's IT building. The official reason they told me why they
throw out so much cardboard,"they don't have a truck to bring it
somewhere for recycling. "

It so irresponsible. I say hire a service. I hate it when the
cleaning lady asks if she can breakdown my cardboard and throw it
out. I take it home and recycle it.

STUPID TREES I HATE YOU
dcoffee - 09/04/08 14:32
If you want to get the word out more, you can always post something on WNYmedia.net :::link::: they have good Alexa ratings and a lot of local viewers, anyone can post, and it could get picked up by local media. I agree with you, that's really bad. Changing the behavior of an institution like this is huge, it would eliminate a lot of waste. Finally my college SUNY Fredonia started a recycling program.
libertad - 09/04/08 13:51
So innaporpriate for me to be viewing at my desk! Seriously, I am put off that they made no response to our suggestions for the cafeteria. You should make a suggestion too since they ignored me and tinypliny.
heidi - 09/04/08 13:27
Where does the computer/electronics waste go? If they order 150-ish computers a week, there's a LOT of stuff being replaced...
tinypliny - 09/04/08 11:36
oops, didn't meant to post that empty. An IT person told me that they order 150 PC/Comp units every week and I suppose all the cardboard packaging is thrown away. :/ That is environmental homicide.
tinypliny - 09/04/08 11:34
tinypliny - 09/04/08 11:33
I feel SO STRONGLY about all this non-recycling havoc that A CANCER CARE institute is wrecking on WNY. I think we should start a site called "Roswell DOES NOT Recycle" and post pictures of wanton non-recycling behaviour on it, daily. Since Roswell cares so much about its image, people would be forced to sit up and take notice. I am sick of writing letters to random people in authority every month. In response to (e:libertad)'s cafeteria call to action, I wrote a well-reasoned (I think) long letter to the comments box, and signed it so they would send me a response. But they never bothered!
