Remembering a Life Before Food
Category: food
Remember when my journal was a bit crazier. The years before I started only posting about food. It sees like getting food is now become the only social activity in my life. I have to keep reminding myself that soon winter will be over and I will do stuff like go on walks, go hiking, bird watching, etc.

I had lots of meetings yesterday. Turned out that we are going to be making a Roswell version of estrip for kids and young adults. I a excited to see how it turns out but this means I a going to be crazy busy from now until I leave for San Francisco.

The view from up top of Roswell is interesting. I bet it looks so much better in the summer.
image

The have all this missions furniture in the lobby. While I think it is pretty to look at, I find that that particular style is really standoffish and uninviting, I wonder why they went with it.

image

And for food.
For lunch we ate at the Delta Sonic on Main Street because they gave us all $3 coupons. They are kind of like a truck stop. My $5 sandwich came to $2. While I think the food was pretty ok, I don't like the atmosphere of eating at a gas station. At first I thought it was cool that you operate the touchscreen to order the parts of your sandwich but now I think it just feels like they were to cheap to hire ore workers and that you do the work for yourself.
image

Last night we tried to go to Casa Di Pizza but it was crowded so we headed over to Kosta. We were actually two cars worth of people so it was tricky trying to coordinate somewhere to eat. I am always a big fan of Kostas because they have the tastiest octopus.

image

I did not die from eating the bayleaf in my clam chowder. When we were kids (e:mike) was so scared of bayleaves.
image

I drank white wine and ended up with a headache again. I wonder if I have some reaction to the sulfites.

image

This is what I felt like afterwards. I ended up going to bed with a headache and everyone else went out.

metalpeter - 03/03/07 15:49
That is an interesting view in that picture. What would really be cool is to see the view from other sides of the building. In terms of getting out more I'm sure spring and summer will be verry busy. Hopefully I can say the same thing for myself as well. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we run into each other somewhare.
southernyankee - 03/03/07 13:12
I miss you too Paul!
mike - 03/03/07 13:11
i am still terrified of bay leaves!

A day at the office
Category: work
Wow, I just wrote this huge journal but when I plugged in my mouse , my laptop short circuited and restarted. I think I was at the point where I was angry about the prospects of retiring in a cubicle.

The only sentence that survived was:

It is a huge waste of my abilities to have me make a CD-ROM which sells christmas cards. I just don't get it. It is like hiring an auto engineer to change your oil.

It is probably better I did not publish it.

I started eating jaw breakers because they are the only candy I cannot chew through when I am stressed out.
image

We ate at Gin Gin's in Chinatown on sheridan. I am fascinated at how the once oh so white KenTon is getting all multi-culti. Someone told me this story once about a suburb of Toronto that was the same way. They were saying that the city became trendy again and the canadians moved out of that suburb and back to the city. Then the suburb became like the ethnic hub.

image

Something about a blog in chinese.
image

(e:eknot) drank bubble tea. He agreed, shooting the bubbles out the straw was fun
image

I ate chopped squid. It tasted really good. I refuse to eat normal meat like chicken where I am not sure what the meat really is. You just can't fake squid.
image

The candy machine was full of nasty candy that had been there for years it looked like. Now, there was a sign that said it was out of order, but for how long. Why not just haul the machines away.
image

image

They have a regular american menu with the typical american chinese crap like sweet and sour chicken, but then they have a right to left chinese menu with the good stuff.

image

image

image

That area is definately becoming chinese. Remember when it was just kind of white trash with Ames.
image

Wow, these guys are poptastic
image

mrdeadlier - 03/02/07 23:29
take deep breaths, we'll wade out of all this crap and get to the "good stuff" soon enough. just be patient.
metalpeter - 03/02/07 19:19
They look like an American Pop-punk band or a Korean pop band. Yes I will admit I have heard Korean pop music I think it was Korean it sounds just like american pop except I couldn't understand the words. There used to be an international chanel on Adelphia but then it changed its name to or letters to AZN or something like that.
mike - 03/02/07 16:57
comp usa is closing. You might want to hit up their going out of business sale!
mike - 03/02/07 10:06
i also thought you had a raw egg in your mouth. how random
theecarey - 03/02/07 10:00
hehe (e:vincent) beat me to it! In the great metropolis of "Cramsomville" exists a convenient store-gas station-pizza shop, a bank and a car dealership. And thats with it being 'built up' over the past few years. P&K Vending??? never heard of it- probably went out before we were born. I wonder how old that candly really is? :)

oh, there is also the speedway, never been though. Its a 'pass through blink and you miss' sort of 'town'. Now you know more than you'll ever care to know!
jenks - 03/02/07 06:45
MMMM Stripestomash with ginger scallions and Roat Duck. My favorite!!

And in that jawbreaker picture I thought you had a whole raw egg in your mouth.
vincent - 03/02/07 03:13
Your answer for the state of the vending machines lies at the home office of the vendor, RansomTUCKY!!!!! as we refer to it. Right (e:theecarey) ???

New Rugs and Video Liquidators Porn Shop
Category: elmwood
First of all I am using Google Picasa for importing and resizing images on my laptop. I suggest it for anyone who has a digital camera. It lets you do everything you could ever need with photos, touchup, rotate, resize, tag, sort into collections, etc and best of all it is free. You can get it here

image

We went to FWS this weekend, where I once again was not able to dress up my home for less. It seems like every time we go there it costs ~$1000.

My new rug brings out the brighter tones in my office. (e:matthew) got a nice new rug for the living room too.

image

image

image

Also seems like the road signs are taking a beating this year.
image

I can't believe anyone still buys this type of technology. It seems totally inappropriate for 2007.
image

While we were at FWS, I noticed the porn store next door now sells "420 smoking products" and "dancer footware." Notice the smaller sign to the right. What a weird combo, or maybe not.
image
metalpeter - 02/28/07 17:18
The Dancer footwear makes sense to me because when a couple goes to gather then if she is going to do the dance at home she has the shoes. Not to mention they have all kinds of toys so you might as well sell the shoes. The smoking stuff at first sounds odd but if you are allready in the area why travel all the way down Hertal if you can get it where you get your porn. The thing I wonder is if they sell the glass Dildos. Yes they do make forged glass dildos for those of you who don't know, they do look kinda cool to. If they do I wonder if the same glass company makes them and glass bongs or if one of the other companies they buy from makes somking stuff and sex stuff. Or who know maybe there are bongs out there in the shapes of cocks that can be used as both. I guess I will need to go visit there some day soon again.
mk - 02/28/07 09:39
My voice teacher still uses a recording device like that. Unfortunately I could see myself having to get one to record my students' voice lessons. I currently use my iPod and a microphone to record my own lessons, but I can't expect every student to have that type of technology. If there was some kind of device that recorded directly onto a CD or memory card or something, that would be nice. Tapes are awful but they seem to be easiest for the time being. I can't believe those recording devices are so expensive though.
mrdeadlier - 02/28/07 09:05
what's crazier is the $30-40 they're charging for them!
carolinian - 02/28/07 01:56
Back when I went to school Ithaca, the porn shop was also the head shop. I remember thinking at the time that it was weird but that "porn shops everywhere in New York state must be like that." It was funny how they didn't advertise the whole 420 thing and taped on the glass case holding the bongs was a sign stating that all water pipes were strictly "for tobacco use only".

As for the tape recorders, I am quite familiar with the price labels sitting below them. As a former rat shack employee, I can testify that such tape recorders are probably some of the least ancient stuff they have. Back when I worked there about eight years ago, they had freaking reel-to-reel tape and phonograph cartridges and those tape casettes you used in answering machines back in the day. And that was the stuff on the shelves! The really, really old stuff you'd typically find in the clearance bins (I think at some point they got rid of the bins, so no more good photo ops there).

I feel sick and pics of the week
Category: health
In the middle of the oscars I started to feel achey. I thought it was from carrying the new rugs we bought into the house. It wasn't I was getting ill. Soon a headache set in and a fever. I spent the whole night lying there awake and feeling really unpleasant. I hate illnesses that you cannot sleep through. The sleep through kind are tolerable because I don't ind sleep for extended periods of time, blah.

On a good note, I do not have high blood pressure at all. I guess it was just soe freak individual readings because now that I read it like 3 times a day and graph it, it is generally very normal.

Here are some pics from my camera that have no real common theme.

Who buys a $20 lottery ticket?
image

That art workshop on Allen and Main seems to have closed down or at least downsized.
image

Is this an advertisement to suggest we drink clam juice?
image

Cornish Hens taste great cooked by a cornish woman.
image

I swear I saw some grass one day!
image

The mardis gras parade was really lame. It was about one block long. I guess the weather was shitty and we were as much to blame as everyone else because we didn't make a float. Maybe next year?
image

image

Me and (e:mike) at pardi gras.
image

I found these iceblocks in front of my tenants house. What could such a large solid iceblock come from?
image

image

image

This is ironic don't you think. It should no laying down.
image

Scallops are yummy.
image

I went crazy and got soe shoes. Three pairs to be exact.

My Mardi Gras Theory is this
A. During the week
B. To Cold For Flashing
C. With no boobs be shown who wants to walk down that long path right after work on a tuesday
D. Mardi Gras is meant for someplace warm
E. It is only really a holiday in New Orleans
mrdeadlier - 02/26/07 14:56
Hope you feel better dude
mk - 02/26/07 13:12
haha paul, mike and i were just talking about $20 lottery tickets the other day. how crazy is that to just drop $20 on a lottery ticket?!
vincent - 02/26/07 11:04
Oh, People do. I remember when I first heard about the $20 scratch offs I went to the A+ in Lewiston to actually see about buying one. The clerk told me that someone came in earlier that night and bought THE WHOLE ROLL!!! @ 50 a roll that's $1,000!!!!

There is so much money out there that people don't know what to do with it's scary.
zobar - 02/26/07 10:36
The mardi gras parade is always moderately lame. For starters, nobody can walk in it because the parade route is waaay too long. Even when the weather's good it's still late February. And I guess they had real trouble getting people to be in it this year because of the cold snap we had while we were recruiting.

On the other hand, I really like that the floats are generally real funky homebrewed DIY type stuff, and that you don't have to have a fancy float if you don't want to. You should totally be in it next year.

What isn't this about?
Category: housing
First of all Nick, do you really think that after all you put me through, I would ever help you with anything?

Then google earth is amazing. I loved it since it was Keyhole. They now have a nice linux binary installer. That is fantastic. My house has now been added as a 3D model, even if it just is a giant cube.

image

The hospital is just a big chunky block thing. It seems that you can build better texturized models with google sketchup and then upload them to google earth. HSBC has one, I wonder if Roswell Park will ever want one.

image

Here is how I walk home.

image

I bought a tiny microchip a while ago that can remember everywhere it went for two weeks and saves the data in KML the format that google earth reads to plot maps. It seems like I just need a fun project for it now.

I spent the evening electronically walking down millionaire row, the name for the fanciest part of Delaware, where all the mega mansions are. The Buffalo As An Architectural Museum site is a great place for pictures inside the homes. Did anyone else know that Delaware and North was considered the premiere property in buffalo? To bad the beautiful mansion there faces a Walgreens instead of a hill down to the city.

This is the first mansion at that corner.

image

It was replace by this amazing one. Why couldn't I have been a rich industrialist. I guess I would have missed computers.

image

image

image

The people that built these mansion were the least responsible preservationists. They knocked down the giant beautiful mansion that were there before to built the ones there now.

Here is the pre-knox mansion, mansion on the same plot
image

Here is the mansion they built.
image

They caught a very giant squid near Austalia. Look at its giant body trial out the back. It is just screaming lemon, garlic.
image

Someone beat us to cancer fundraising in SecondLife.
image

Look (e:terry), it is the old hotel we used to live in jena.
image

mrdeadlier - 02/26/07 08:32
Now that ACS has one, all we need to do is pipe up to Marketing and we'll be commissioned to put together an RPCI SL presence within the week. ;)
carolinian - 02/24/07 15:30
> My house has now been added as a 3D model, even if it just is a giant cube.

You should tell people that your mansion actually is a cube and that you were going for the star trek "borg" look.
paul - 02/24/07 14:27
I think second life is better than WOW but I haven't played WOW. Secondlife is kind of like a giant art space.

Nick wrote to say he forgot his password and wanted to get it to log in.
paul - 02/24/07 13:37
It's called the Butler Mansion now it used to be the Williams Manson. The company that bought t and fxed t up was Called Delaware North. Named after the corner. They are now a giant internatonal copmpany. Here is some history from their site :::link:::

mike - 02/24/07 12:07
what favor did Nick ask you for?
uncutsaniflush - 02/24/07 11:05
Wow! Nick asked you for a favor!! What Chutzpah!! It's like someone murdering his parents and asking mercy because he is an orphan.

Perhaps he should ask his friends at the Erie County Sheriff's Dept. for help. :-)
zobar - 02/24/07 08:53
Huh - looking up at the HSBC Center from the ground, you can't even see that house on the roof.

Your house, on the other hand, looks much better in person.

Cephalopods freak my shit right out, because if a squid or an octopus decides it's going to fight you - what are you going to do, punch it? No! You can't punch a squid, because they're mushy. Stay the Hell away from them because if they decide they want to go mano a mano [a mano a mano a mano a mano a mano a mano] with you, you're fucked!

imk2 - 02/24/07 07:47
that mansion on the corner of north and delaware is called the butler mansion. how hard is it to get into playing second life? is WOW better?
