car drama at the impound!
so I'm here at the impound with marvin (my ex), who has been a treasure because he has given me his car to drive for the past two days while mine is sitting at the impound. I went to city hall and paid all the fines yesterday but could not pick it up because the impund closes at 3:45. what fucking office closes that early? when i was leaving work yesterday, i was leaving to pick faben up from school. so when i found out that my car was gone, i had to call marvin to go get her from school. in the mean time she her school bus came and she called my work and cell to tell me, but my battery was near dead so i didn't know it rang. he was running around the school like a mad man, looking for faben who was already gone, while i'm calling him crying and yelling about my missing car and kid. when i finally figured out what happened he picked me up from city hall and ended up being an hour late for work because of my mess. so he gave me his car and said that i can keep it for yesterday and today and he would find a ride home from work.

so I get here (the impound) today and I tell the guy that I'm ready to pick up the car and he says fine but I hope you have a tow truck because your inspection is expired.

are you fucking kidding me!?!? I didn't even notice!

so thankfully I had hundai roadside assistance from the warranty that you get when buying a new car. i'm sure it is not intended for towing cars from impounds b/c your car is not inspected, but i just told them that it would not start and gave them the address of the impund. i figured i'd deal with the tow guy when he arrived. and when he did, he was super cool and was like i'll just tow you down the road and then let you go and you can go on your merry way. and i said cool, and reached for my keys, and realized that i didn't even bring them!

wtf!

so he tows it to marvins house and then we have to go back to get my keys at work and drive back to his house and then finally this nightmare is over. if it werent for him, i would have been totally fucked. thankfully, he puts up with my drama and lets what ever comes out of my mouth go in one ear and come right out of the other.

and so he concludes this two day adventure with "so do i get any ass out of this, or what?"
joshua - 03/02/07 16:15
He has earned his ass, let him have what he needs!
jenks - 03/01/07 23:41
lol. boys. Well I'm glad things are ok... let me know if you need anything.
imk2 - 03/01/07 18:46
ahhh, the grief is all my fault. there is no excuse for all this, especially since i got that lecture from that cop not too long ago (it's posted somewhere), but i reeeely learned my lesson now, i swear.
mrmike - 03/01/07 18:30
Wrong question, spunky!!

Sorry for all the grief
libertad - 03/01/07 18:29
Make sure you don't park on the streets until you get the car inspected. You wouldn't want another ticket after all that. It would probably put you right over the edge! They love giving parking tickets for expired inspections.

i will never again not pay a parking tix
i am ready to leave work this afternoon and walk outside and am ready to go to my car when i realize that my car is not there.

my heart took a swim into my stomach.

they booted and towed my car!

fuck!

i can't believe what a fucking looser i am. i really didn't think they would do it.

pay your parking tickets, people.
knife - 03/01/07 18:27
yeah, last february they towed mine out of my driveway at 11:30 on a friday night. pound wasn't open till tuesday 'cause of a holiday.
fuckers, they didn't even give me a ticket, i just had to pay impound fees and they gave me back my car.
jason - 03/01/07 08:28
Been there, imk. Check this out - we had our car booted, and then we called downtown to try and plead with them. They told us we had to be downtown in like, an hour or less or it would be towed. Hello, we don't have a freaking car to drive downtown! Yeah, they are ultra strict. Gotta keep that Gubmit revenue flying in.
ingrid - 02/28/07 20:20
I freaking hate getting parking tickets at Roswell. I think I saw your car. Well, I saw a car w/ a big bright yellow boot on it around 10 this morning on Virginia (i think it was Virginia--right in front of the new UB building)...sorry about those tickets..

That Happend to me once I almost cried when I left Toronto. You may say what is so great about TO? I went to Wrestlemania, The Fan Axxcess stuff, A Bandits game and A leaf's game. I can't remember how many days I was there. But when I got back I didn't want to be back at all.
leetee - 02/27/07 09:37
Welcome home!

I totally understand how depressing real life is after a vacation. Even if we love our day to day life, it's not the same fun as the holiday.

Chin up! Least you got to go (unlike me, sob sob sob1)!
mrmike - 02/26/07 22:54
Glad you're home
imk2 - 02/26/07 21:39
and yes, i am back from paris, but i'm too depressed about being back to post any pictures or write anything about my trip. maybe if i slice my writsts and drip down a bit of this darkness off of my brain, maybe then i'll get some pics up.

Rock on I knew it would work out for you. I want one of those funny french hats if you can manage it. Oh and a mustache from a real frenchman.
mrmike - 02/17/07 09:53
Awesome!!
bon soir, mon ami
chico - 02/16/07 20:56
Amazing!

Rock on, imk... hope you and Faben have a great time in Paris.

02/16/2007 12:14 #38180

dammit
I wrote this on my phone so excuse the speeling and grammar.

so no, I'm not in paris yet. because of the storm everything is still jacked up. I get to the airport yesterday to get paper tickets (us stand by people have to get boarding passes when flying international ahead of time) and its about 2:30 pm. the agent tells me that the six o'clock flight that I was planning to take is not going to philly anymore. philly is backed up for days because of the ice from the storm andthey only have 8 gates that are working. WTF! she tells me that the 3pm is delayed till 4:15 and I should try to catch that. I didn't have anything with me yet. I hadn't gone home from work yet and so I had to haul ass back to tonawanda to get my luggage and faben. we get back to the airport and get through security and to the gate on time. when they begin boarding I get a glimmer of hope because I hear them saying that there are only 28 passangers (its a small 37 seat plane). so I'm thinking I'm golden when the agent tells me that the flight is weight restricted and they'll only be taking 30. unfortunately there were a few REAL passangers on the standby list and so a couple of suits get on instead of me. so now I'm sitting at the airport thinking what the fuck do I do. there are no more flight to philly. do I go home or do I go somewhere else to try to get to philly. as I'm sitting there the agent makes an announcement saying that anyone who is going to philly needs to go to the ticket counter because ther are NO seats to philly FOR THE NEXT FIVE DAYS!!

I was like wtf? so I figure I should go to bwi and maybe take a train to philly. the agent put us up in first class for free. usually I have to pay $20 but I guess he was feeling generous. good thing he did. I got placed there with a group of hotshots who were desperate to get to philly. they all started making phone calls and had a limo waiting to pick them up at the airport. the invited me and faben to come along. I said that I cannot afford a limo, but they said that its all covered. so we got a free luxury ride to philly and arrived at about 10:20. the paris flight left at 9:37.

so my mom was able to book a hotel for us with her holiday inn points. I was surprised that they let her do it on such a short notice. but we once again lucked out cuz every single hotel in the area was booked and the ones that weren't were $200 a night. I was able to get a 2pm check out today , so we will be packing up soon and heading back to the airport. I wanted to go to the city and do some stuff, butits 5 degrees here so it won't be happening.

if I don't get on that flight tonight, I will be coming home.

i'll keep you guys updated.
metalpeter - 02/16/07 19:48
I will admit that there is a lot that I don't understand about airlines. If your end ticket location is paris and philly is shut down why can't they just give you a ticket to someother city that you can get a plane to paris. It seems to me that the system is working backwords.
libertad - 02/16/07 17:42
that is so fucked up and cool at the same time. Glad you got to philly.
jenks - 02/16/07 17:12
Yeah good luck! My sis was going to go home for Mom's bday, but she's stuck in Philly too. I hate Philly.

It also just struck me how fucked up it is that the airline industry is always the one we look to as the epitome of safety, etc. E.g. all the pilots' work-hour restrictions etc. In medicine they compare us to the airline industry all the time.

And then it dawned on me- who says that's a good thing? The airline industry is seriously jacked up these days.

It is pretty messy in the Northeast. I was surprised my Dad got of of BufNia yesterday, but he was heading to FLA. He called me and told me that it was a F'ing mess.

At least some congressman is going to get us a Passenger Bill of Rights, so we don't get stuck on the tarmac for 8 hours or something hideous like that in the future.

Hope you get out today. Although those random acts of fellow traveler kindness are very cool. I remember last year when my Dad split a rental from Pittsburgh to Buffalo with some East Amherst businessman when our flight was cancelled. What a fun 4 hours of conversation.
