It;'s that time of year again when we lose the annual Artvoice Best of Buffalo Award ;(
Maybe this year we could win if everyone voted estrip.org for BEST LOCAL WEBSITE instead of half of the people voting for best local web site and the other half voting for best local blog. Estrip.org is not a blog, it is a blogging website. As I said last year, if you vote, vote best local website for the site and vote a specific user's blog for best local blog.
Both are in the "People you Know Category" In order for your vote to count you need to vote for 30 Best of Buffalo Topics. Voting is much easier this year. I like the new look of the voting interface ;)

Site UpdatesCategory: estrip
I did some bug fixing and updates today. It sucks so bad right now on my slow computer. I am ready for a new faster one with more RAM.
I am sure something is fucked up, if it is -go ahead and leave a comment here.
On linux the file upload now defaults to the old style one so that it does not crash.
Fixed the character counter in the create message window.
Changed the mobile/dialup image link in the top left to say estrip::lite - it is a more appropriate name.
Changed the logout button to be an exit sign.
Made it so that the surebert sticker loads sooner, which in turn allows the "restore backup" button to load faster, if you ever lose a journal.

I am testing windows via vmware. My laptop is not cut out for it. It has 1 GB of ram and it is too slow to run my development software, firefox on linux and VMware. It ends up taking more time than using multiple computers. The only option is a more modern laptop or just go with a tower, something I really don't want to do.

paul, have you thought about testing (e:strip) using virtual machines so you don't have to actually use 15 computers? I've used both vmware and qemu successfully but its on the old linux box so RAM and processer speed are limiting factors.
Thank you for the hard work. I know its a hassle making sure that the site works properly with different browsers and different operating systems.
(e:leetee) and I really appreciate all the time and effort you put in to make sure that (e:strip) works in linux.

PS. I am so sick of having to test oeverything on fifteen computers. By the time I get to the last one there is is always some problem. Why would firefox be any different on mac than it is on linux or PC. Why does IE have to be so stupid.

5,000,000 viewsCategory: estrip
Well we made it. 5,000,000 views since Dec 24th, 2004. The kind of thing we should have done a press release about but i am too busy nowadays.
Thanks everyone for your contribution to this by writing the nearly 4,000,000 word you have written in your journals.

maybe (e:zobar) would have some pull? I don't know anything about making a press release, but I could write them if you want.

5,000,000 views for 4,000,000 words. Wow. Someone has looked at this site more than once for every single word on here. That's a lot.

Congrats paul. You must be really proud of what you have created. This is such an amazing site that seems to get better and better and I haven't even been on for that long to see all of it's changes. You said something about a press release. Who are you interested in covering the story?

I think it works in konqueror 3.5Category: estrip
The non-mobile version of the site should work normal in Linux Konqueror now. I switched it to use the old upload system for konqueror.
There is still no sound in Konqueror but other than that it is normal.

Wow I wish i had a good idea. The only thing that I can think of is have an (e:strip) reunion. What I mean is a party for everyone on (e:strip) or anyone who used to post and stoped or left the site or did like one journal and never posted again or who posts but never goes to parties (like me in the past). The reason I say this is I don't remember who but I know there are some people who post but don't read that often and just the opposite is true also.
The thing I wonder is how many of the views come from people who never joined the site or are outside visitors. I assume that each time I click on a journal that isn't mine it counts as a view but what happens if I click on the button to read comments is that counted as another view? It would be interesting to know number wise and percent wise how many views are from people who arn't part of the site. I'm guessing that might take a lot of work so I'm not suggesting to really do that.
