I went to a union lunch party today. I heart my union . I realize they take a lot of money and they are bad for business. I also realize everyone else hates them. But damnit, I love the union and the fact that I have health insurance and a living wage with holidays and a retirement plan. I know that it's the union that makes that all possible. I have definately tried working for the non-union jobs. I never made more than $20,000 and I never had health insurance.
They had some pretty tasty "free" sandwiches and we were able to choose between a free FM radio or a plastic waterbottle. I actually chose the water bottle now that my phone does internet streaming radio. I think it is funny that an FM radio is now worth as much as an empty waterbottle. It wasn't even a particularly nice one. Now that I think about it, I forgot it in the meeting, lol.
At the meeting we voted if we think it is good to make roswell a smoke free zone. I voted for it. I can't believ it isn't one already. In the middle of the cmapus there is an area locked between fences and buildings and in the center of it, next to the praxair compressions tanks is a smoker hut, that is most likely an old metro bus stop. It looks exactly liek one. I will try and get a picture tomorrow. Some referred to it as the Bus Stop that to afterlife.
As a side note, I did think it was funny that on the newsletter the clipart with the article was money but that there was nothing really about money in the article.

the metroCategory: transport
Who designed the advertisements for the Buffalo metro? They look like they were designed by intro to graphic design students of a pre computer era. Only the craptastic dropshadow guves it away. These ones can be found at the Allen Street station.
I am supposed to be at Canisius teaching but the subway is late. One more station to go.
Some man on the subway was telling this long winded story about how all the stars came from buffalo before there was Hollywood. He just kept screaming it at these girls and paul, the other Paul that worked at Kunis and the coop.

Lunch of the DeadCategory: food
The lunches only get better at Roswell. I just wish I didn't have to listen to the shooting drama over and over again. My entire lunch was dominated by the death of that crazy man on the television.
The way the news anchors talked about it, it seems like they were hoping it was in fact a terrorist.

Couldn't disagree more with Robin. Making a hospital a smoke free zone is a no brainer imo.
About unions - I can't possibly put all of my thoughts into a comment but I will say that Unions can be either extremely good or extremely bad. Like their corporate executive counterparts the Union leadership are not always interested in negotiations which by their very definition suggest said parties have to both give concessions. Like I said, some are very good, some are very bad.
paul, is it a hospital you work at?
if so I think s smoking ban is a total assaloe idea. I'll tell you why.
When I lived with Matthew P we got into a fight one day and i stormed out. I went shopping at thrift stores and then to my friend Tenas house. Matthew called to tena's and asked me to come home and talk. He told me he did my laundry. I told him I wanted to visit with tena a little longer.
When I returned to our apartment out roommate kristen called to tell me she was in the hospital whith matthew and he had swallowed 50 of his anti depressiants. I went to the hospital and Matthew was in the emergency room out of his head. He had black charchol all over his teeth, mouth, face, and little bare chest. I got a cloth and cleaned him up while he talked delusional stories, slurring his words. Then he started having a terrible seizure and the doctors came in and kicked me out. I curled into a ball in the hallway and sobbed for a while. Then I decided I needed a cigarette to calm my nerves. I walked outdoor and over to a little bench. It was night and the place was deserted except for a security guard who came from somewhere and told me no smoking. Thaat I would need to walk a half a mile to the road to smoke a cigarette. I remember screaming at the guy, crying, and walking down to the road. the bastard.
Hospitals are stressful places. Smokers need their smokes in stressful situations and usually waiting for someone u love in the hospital is very stressful.
