Gas Price Contest
I just witnessed the price of gas being changed at the Landes and Blackwell across the street. $3.04 to $3.07 per gallon. Can anyone guess what it will be a month from now?

update: This is a contest. Please have your guess in by Friday 7/28/06!
twisted - 07/27/06 22:19
Sorry - I'm more verbal than mathematical. I have no clue!
hodown - 07/27/06 15:53
My guess is 3.299
mike - 07/26/06 22:23
i'm gonna be a little crazy and guess $2.64? Who knows? lately customers have been commenting that their prescriptions are getting cheaper (let me tell you this almost never happens but seems to be happening lately). So who knows, maybe gas will be the same!
metalpeter - 07/26/06 19:15
$3.35 is just a guess.
jason - 07/26/06 00:04
3.17
libertad - 07/25/06 23:51
(e:paul), (e:ladycroft), (e:twisted) and (e:jason) please enter an exact amount to qualify for the contest. (e:zobar) the contest is based on prices at the Landes and Blackwell on Elmwood. Is your $3.219/gal your guess for the above location?

I don't know if driving habits will change even at $4 a gallon. Think about what people are being told: Don't drive to work, don't go on vacation, don't buy anything at the store. It is not at all realistic to hope that people change their driving habits until it cuts into them being able to take care of the basics.
vincent - 07/25/06 12:47
I'd say about $3.50.

Sadly most Americans will not change their driving habbits until it goes beyond $4 as most talking heads on TV say.

Diesel car owners can convert them to veggiemobiles :::link::: "not just for hippies" anymore!
ladycroft - 07/25/06 10:17
it was a blessing that aqua mouse crapped out. i couldn't afford to fix her, but i can't afford gas anyway!

August 25 2006: $3.219/gal at the Citgo on Colvin & Linden.

When I bought my Prius in Jan 2003 I determined, given then-current mileage patterns and assuming gas prices did not rise, that over the course of my 5-year loan, the cost of my car and gas would be the same whether I bought a Prius [51cty/45hwy] or a Corolla [30cty/34hwy]. The price difference was somewhere around $6000, and gasoline cost about $1.60/gal in New Jersey.

I also seriously considered buying crude oil futures at the same time, but I thought it was a little overcynical [not to mention that after buying the car I wasn't exactly flush with cash]. Now that it's $80/bbl I think it's too late to make any serious money off of it and I kick myself every time I read about rising crude prices. I would have nearly tripled my investment by now.

If the situation in Lebanon continues and expands, I think on August 25, 2006 gas will be at $3.61/gallon. And we'll be thankful it isn't higher.
Start weatherproofing your windows and doors for the winter, folks. The price to heat your home will be even worse than 2005-06.
paul - 07/24/06 23:52
I hope it will be under $20. Thankfully I am moving 2 blocks from a job I plan to keep for the rest of my working life.

More house drama
It is almost 1am. I'm sitting on my front stoop and notice Hummer owner from Envyus circling around the gas station across the street two times (In her hummer). I'm thinking, look, there is no more gas for you, the station is closed. Then she pulls up in front of me and asks do you live here. Yes, I do live here. There is a man sleeping on the back porch of your house. OK. What do you want me to do about it?. Hummer owner rolls up her tinted window to make cell phone call. Three minutes later three cop cars come to remove man passed out on back porch steps. He has a false leg which made him look like he was completely bent out of shape. All the while Hummer sits idling until she is safe to go into her apartment. Man completely passed out on neighbors step is a threat to Hummer woman.
libertad - 07/24/06 21:37
When I finally decided to check the man out, my first thought was that maybe he was dead, not that he was any threat to anyone. She didn't need to walk passed him. All she had to do was drive her Hummer past his body to her house two doors down. I also would have called 911 out of my concern for him rather than because I thought that it was a threat to drive my tank past him. Point is that this woman makes me angry for one, having a hummer and two, for not caring about anyone but herself. I guess these two points are hard to separate. Why should I let her life bother me? I don't know, it doesn't make too much sense.
metalpeter - 07/24/06 19:50
Well if I was walking back behind a house and entered through the back It would freak me out to. How do you know they are passed out. Second you step over them they grab your leg pull you down one hand into pocket for wallet, bank card or keys. I think I would have asked for an ambulance or EMTs to check on the guy but not cops. Wait I just thought of something why wern't there cops at the store isn't there always like 3 cars there any time of the day :-) .
mrmike - 07/24/06 12:46
"Man completely passed out on neighbors step is a threat to Hummer woman." Sounds like a headline. I live/used to live in and around there and it amazes me what will throw folks off. I used to live on Anderson and when one of the "street Performers" passed out on our steps, I turned the hose on em and went right on with the day. I see the Envenus hummer a lot, talk about a wasted expense. Who do they think they are anyway, LaNova?
leetee - 07/24/06 01:31
When i was out on the hunt for a salon to get my hair done in when we first moved to Buffalo, i refused to go to that envius place because they have a hummer someone roams around the city in. Nope. Not me. I don't want to give them money for gas for that thing!

Housing update
We have had more communication with the land lady (for lack of a better word) . The house will not be demolished. Things are going good and I should have at least until November maybe even until next spring to stay. If I could stay until then my life would be so much easier. I'm excited still to see what History i can find on the house. If all goes well I'll be living on my own starting in September. That is such an exciting feeling.
mike - 07/23/06 19:01
awesome! I'm glad it is going better than you had originally thought it would.

584 Elmwood
The other night I talked to a woman that (e:paul) has recorded ranting on Elmwood. See his post
Many of you may have seen this woman around the strip within the last year. Interestingly enough, she was on one of her rants directed at what you or I couldn't see. She was sitting on our curb front on Elmwood as often people do. I said hello, but there wasn't a response. Then I said "How are you?" The next part took me by surprise. We ended up having a very interesting dialogue. It seems she has another side to her and aparently you can pull her out of a rant just by saying hello. She shared with me some of her struggles, we exchanged names and I said goodbye. The conversation probably lasted 30 minutes or so. She didn't really stop talking after telling her I had to go in, so as she talked I gently and steadily shut the door.

On another note, this morning we got a call letting us know the Bishop who owns our house is ready to sell. A realtor will be here on Tuesday and they will decide whether to sell ASAP or next Spring. Of course this complicates my situation as Steve was planning on moving out in September and I was to continue living here. The price is right and I like living here. I'm probably not going to be able to afford living on my own and the other thing is who could I possibly live with?

The other thing I'm concerned about is that they will sell to some creep who just wants to tear the house down. Maybe on Monday I could get to the Historical Society to do some research on the house. It's possible I could convince the Bishop to screen potential buyers for their intentions. We don't need another house on Elmwood destroyed for greed's sake.
