Rwanda

With my netflix subscription I rented Hotel Rwanda. I highly recommend it to everyone. I vaguely remember this event happening, but never thinking much of it. To see the movie has really affected me. To quickly recap hat happened read below:

The Rwandan conflict of the 1990s marked one of the bloodiest chapters in recent African history. The genocide was made all the more tragic by the fact that most of the world chose to ignore the conflict and the plight of the Rwandan people. While occasional reports about "tribal warfare" in Rwanda were carried by international news agencies, the horror of the conflict, instead of causing international outrage, seemed to be written off as another "third world incident" and not worthy of attention.

Over the course of 100 days, almost one million people were killed in Rwanda. The streets of the capital city of Kigali ran red with rivers of blood, but no one came to help. There was no international intervention in Rwanda, no expeditionary forces, no coalition of the willing. There was no international aid for Rwanda. Rwanda's Hutu extremists slaughtered their Tutsi neighbors and any moderate Hutus who stood in their way, and the world left them to it.

Amidst the horrendous violence and chaos that swept the country, one of the many heroes to emerge was Paul Rusesabagina, an ordinary man who, out of love and compassion, managed to save the lives of 1268 people.

In part of the movie this man Paul ( a real life person) can not believe how the entire world has deserted Rwanda. The UN pulls out, foreign troops come in but only evacuate their own people. He stands there while troops are rescuing everyone but them and a journalists says to Paul that people will see what is happening on the news say it is awful and go back to eating their dinner. Repeatedly the US denied that genocide was taking place. In a matter of 100 days one million people were slaughtered. I don't use the word killed because when someone cuts you up with a machete you are not simply killed. I will never understand how this kind of hate can exist in someone.

My Office

I am so f'ing sick of not being in a comfortable climate. In the subway its so hot you want to die, but because my office is so cold I can't stand it I am in pants. There is no happy medium.

On a happier note I cleaned my keyboard at work for the first time in a year. Finally I found some unguarded Office Duster Spray. Everyplace I have ever worked they guard this stuff like it's gold. Why? In any case I snagged the can and cleaned the heck out of my key board. It was so dirty and gross there was an actual dust bunny stuck in the keys. I wish I had a camera phone so I could have taken a picture of it.

OMG

Ok so part of my complete cluelessness about this site manifested itself in not knowing about the whole comments section. People can actually leave comments in this little section about what you post. Who the heck would have ever thought?! So I appologize if you have ever left me a comment and I never responded- I had NO idea! So yea for comments. I'm going to go read all my comments from start to finish :)

Update

Ok first off we just downed a bottle of Cliquot (Champ.) at work. This seems fancy and I was excited until I realized it was in celebration that FINALLY this huge asshole left the firm. He was fired back in Oct. but they let him use our office space until last week. Since I worked directly with him they waited until I got back to pop it open. So for all of his demeaning and assholeness I got three plastic cups of Cliquot. Heck, I have two full bottles under my desk just from clients. Somehow I feel cheated.

In any case this is a good lead in to my week update. Let's begin with I always deal with the difficult people. At the best party I've been to in a long ass time some how I was the only one with the balls to throw this huge loser out of PMT's party. Let's just keep in mind there was a pretty equal guy/girl ratio. Again I get stuck dealing with the difficult people. In any case I won't feed this idiot's ego with speaking too much of him. Let's just say going to someones house and acting in the manner he did and then trashing various things AND THEN pissing off my sister is not a good idea when I am around. I don't fuck around when it comes to my friends and family.

Arizona was so much fun. I want to live there now I think. I am addicted to the pool and tanning. My sister thinks this is gross, but I love the sun. It's a by-product of growing up in buffalo with no sun. So yes AZ was fun. Then I went to Buff. Oh boy. I had so much fun I can't go over everything. I'll give some highlights:

Cra-gee

This kid I know Nolan used to make up words to replace real words, cra-gee is his version of crazy.

Anyways the party was so fun and crazy. I suppose that what happens when you mix alcohol, ganga and various fun people.

I arrived home into my little box apartment at 9pm and I am beat. I'd love to post more about my vacation but I need some sleep...

Today is MUCH better

So today is a much better day. I actually got sleep. Yesterday I can not believe I even managed to stay alive. Ok maybe thats dramatic, but thats me. So far today has been tan-fastic. I got all the clothes I ordered in the mail :) Some shoes from victorias secret and 2 tops, a awesome pair of gaucho pants which are all the rage. I believe these pants are a gift from god to me. They are like sweat pants, but with super flowy legs. Those who know me are aware of my huge love of the lounging pant. I can take these pants from lounge to night out by just slipping on my new shoes! Oh so the other night when I went out with Tom he actually had this whole chat with me about bags/purses AND some girl stopped me to see where I got my skirt from. Have a good fashion day is wonderful.

The Ballet

This woman I PA for just gave me tickets to the Ballet tonight at the Met Opera House. I can not believe that I get to go. I love ballet and now I get to go to one of the best ballets in the world in an amazing venue. The only thing that would make this better is going with a handsome man instead of a girlfriend. Either way its still super galm and I am all about the glam. I wish I had shoes with sparkles or something on them to wear tonight...

I had no idea when I woke up this morning that today would be so fantastic. Also I got another offer for a PA job on the side. Thats so sweet. Maybe I should save more money with these jobs instead of buying shoes...
