Swing Buffalo, an award winning community dance organization, is excited to announce it’s annual workshop, Rhythm Shuffle. Join us September 16th-18th at the Polish Cadets Hall for an all-around awesome weekend that is jam-packed with local bands, great guest DJ’s, and world-class swing dance lessons taught by two of the best professional swing dancers in the U.S. Instructors Nick Williams, guest choreographer for the hit television show So You Think You Can Dance, and Sylvia Sykes, affectionately known to the dance world as “Swing Goddess”, are flying in from the golden state to impart their extensive knowledge in the art of the historic jazz dances known as lindy hop and balboa, two of the most popular dances from the swing era.

The classes, taught for all level of dancer from beginner on up, will be followed by multiple nights of dancing and spectacular performances and competitions to some swingin’ live music. The Storyville Players will start off the weekend at the welcome dance and Dr. Jazz and the Jazz bugs will perform Saturday night. Three of a Kind will slow it down for the late night party with blues covers.

Fun extras include retro/vintage clothing vendors Cats Like Us, Miss Josie’s antiques, and lunch with Llyod’s Taco truck.

Go to RhythmShuffle.com to check out the schedule, pricing, and other details. As always, there is no partner necessary, no experience necessary, and a weekend of fun to be had, so go to RhythmShuffle.com and register today!

Buffalo Bals
Category: dance
Balboa Workshop with Valerie Salstrom
Featuring an evening dance with the Tin Roof Jazz Band
April 9th

SwingBuffalo and the UB Swing Dance Club present "Buffalo Bals", a Balboa Swing Dance Workshop with Valerie Salstrom, International Balboa Champion from Cleveland, OH. Balboa is a form of swing dance documented as far back as 1915! It was born on the west coast and reached its Hey Day during the Swing Era of the 30's and 40's. It was kept alive long enough for it to be rediscovered in the mid to late nineties during the swing resurgence and is now danced all over the world. Known for its versatility to song speed, it can be danced to the fastest big band songs out there without breaking a sweat. Couples seemingly float across the floor in a close embrace. Dancers were even known to hold and sip drinks while they danced.

Balboa is becoming popular in Buffalo and is danced every week at Lindy Fix. Come join in the fun as we hold a 1-day workshop taught by Valerie Salstrom, organizer of one of the largest balboa events in the world: "All Balboa Weekend". We will have a day of classes followed by an evening dancing to the Tin Roof Jazz Band! You get 4 classes and a dance with a great live band for $35 (students: $25). Registration is at-the-door only.
