“Both of the homes will be getting reverse osmosis systems which will remove total dissolved solids, chlorides, manganese, iron, dissolved methane and ethane gas from their water supplies,†Tarbell said. “There will also be pumps installed, water softeners and UV light to disinfect the water as part of the project.â€

Fixing water contaminationCategory: gas drilling
(e:Paul) asked about how residential well water is being remediated when gas drilling contaminates it. This story discusses a whole-house reverse-osmosis installation. My understanding is that gas drillers aren't installing reverse-osmosis systems very often. They're really not a permanent solution - they take maintenance and money to run, they're noisy, they're slow.

Hooping!Category: fun
Topic Idea: "The one skill that I want to learn next..." suggested by tinypliny
I want to learn to hula hoop. (e:Dovelette)'s idea... she lent me a hoop that's currently decorating my bike. I've started to get it, but I need to practice a lot more. It seems I should be able to be pretty proficient if I practice during the bar review.

I had some gripes with the UI design - could definitely be smoother. It's in whatever the current Microsoft asp.net thing is, so it's gonna have some clunky to it. And little things like not being able to designate a "shipping address" and a "billing address" - something so obvious shouldn't be a problem. They have a "primary address" and a "shipping address" but it seems like when I change one, it changes the other. I think their billing system isn't actually integrated which is just sad.

Oh, the reason I picked ThemisBar.com is that it's entirely online, designed from the ground up to be online. I took the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) review course from them and I got a 105 - I only needed an 85 for NYS and 75 for PA, so I was pleased. I didn't feel like I had put in a huge amount of effort to get that score, the online lectures were short and effective, with nice fill-in-the-blank outlines to make you pay attention and retain stuff by writing. The review question bank was good and I was able to see the patterns in the questions. Their bar passage rates are quite good.

I didn't win the charger :-( I won a discount on a bar review course that I already bought www.themisbar.com ... maybe I'll get a refund for the difference. Original price $1395. I got a $145 discount for registering at the Cornell conference, and now an additional $250 discount, so $1,000. Other people are paying $3,500 for a review course that you have to go to a lecture hall every day to watch a video.

That's a really cool concept. How long does a cellphone need to charge with that? Do you think it will work with any light (not just sunlight?) You have to think about that on gloomy days like today.
