Finally! You are now looking at Doha's most recently certified open water diver :) Woohoo! That has been on my life list for quite some time, I'm so happy to have finally accomplished it! So now I can actually go diving in all these fabulous places instead of just snorkeling. Yay!
In the news lately are stories of workers in Dubai being left at the airports without money or passports and basically turned into slaves. It's really very sad. The situation is the same here in Doha. If you go to the airport you'll see dozens of men sleeping on the concrete right outside the terminal, with no one to claim them. The way they treat workers here is so horrible. It took me a long while to realize why they were so awe struck any time I showed them kindness, or said thank you, or GAVE them something.
When I was in my other office I used to lend my tea boy books all the time and at first he didn't want to accept it. When I smile and say hello to the cleaners in my building, it's like a light shines through their eyes because someone is acknowledging them as a human being and appreciating the work they do. Sigh. Sometimes you just feel so stuck because you want to change things and you know it will probably take 50 years, if it happens.

Update on previous post:
I found some photos of flapper dresses with feather trim, and I was able to find feather trim, so Im gonna sew feather trim on my dress! I looked through the souqs but I just couldn't find fringe. I did found a bit of sequin to trim the neckline with. We'll see how it looks all put together!
Last night I gave my wig a haircut. I made poor Rory wear it because I needed it to sit on a real head. It's not perfect (because cutting a wig with big honky scissors isn't easy) but in a darkened room it will probably look very real. I gave it a nice short bob to go with the flapper theme.
I was going to dye my other dark brown wig black for Morticia, but since I am running out of time, decided it was best not to attempt. More so because I realized it would make a great Lara Croft piece. While my hair works for that now, I DO plan on cutting it as soon as it's long enough to donate again. I'll have a safety net for playing my favorite Heroin!

Holy crapola I have so much catching up to do with my journal!!! Here is the super brief version:
I'm getting my SCUBA certification this weekend, FINALLY!
Just got back from Ireland.
Guinness DOES taste different there.
Rory and I celebrated 6 months last night at an awesome Italian restaurant. We're hoping to celebrate 1 year in the Maldives :)
I went to Hanoi and Halong Bay in Vietnam.
I went to Siem Reap in Cambodia - and the people are awesome!
Will get photos posted to my site very soon!
Josh/Jason - I just found your birthday card in my closet when I did a cleaning fest yesterday! Woops. Will send it soon.
Ciao!

the seychelles, aka the twilight zoneCategory: travels
Wow. I have a lot to say about the Seychelles. This was the holiday to the twilight zone. For serious. I wish I had more time to tell you the whole story now but I have a massive amount of work to do before heading off to Ireland. However...I did want to give you a teaser photo or two. I know haven't even gotten pics from Cambodia or Vietnam up but I'm working on it. No plans to go anywhere for at least a month once I return next week, so I should have time to work on that stuff.
Guinness Storehouse, here I come!!!
the view from my room
under water pictures are tricky...darn fish keep moving, what's up with that!

First two pictures look very nice. ((e:Paul) don't take this the wrong way (e:strip) is an awesome site) if you post them to your Travel site before you put them up here just let us peeps know if you can, the reason I say that is a site for Photos is often made for that so it is much easier to do that. Hope you had a great time in the twilight zone and I can say I look foreword to seeing the pictures and hearing about it, or that would be reading about it I should say.

speechlessCategory: potpourri
I love my boyfriend so much I'm often left speechless when I try to express it. You heard the brief story of my trip and how my camera was stolen (see previous entry). Last night he came over and gave me a gift. A camera. The very same not so cheap waterproof shockproof camera that I had gotten myself for my birthday. I couldn't help but cry. He's so good to me and I'm so grateful to have finally found that someone that completes me.
So...this means I should have cool photos from my upcoming weekend in the Seychelles! I'm hoping to get neato shots of fishes while snorkeling. We shall see. Miss you peeps. I wish Doha had seasons. I really want to wear a red sweater and walk in the leaves and have spicy tea while I make pumpkin bread. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

-The fact that he got you the same camera is pretty amazing, glad you both are very happy
-In terms of the love thing (even though it is famous from some movie Jerry MeGuire I think) The you complete me is a pretty strong statement. not sure what other words would work better then I love you maybe "I want to feel your soul" "you make me and you one person" (Nine inch nails has a dirty version) "I want to fuck you like an animal I want to feel you from the inside" I'm sure there is some way to clean that up. "our souls are one" "you are the reason I live" hey I'm not a poet.
-In terms of Seasons maybe some one will decide that a lot of people miss the seasons and they can make money off of it so they will build a giant green house and change the weather so that you get fall and winter. Hey if in Dubai they can make islands of all the countries and I can't remember if it is there and in Japan they have a place where you can ski inside why can't they make fall.
-I hope you have a great time on your trip and everything works out good for you. On a side note I think the last time I hung out with any (e:peeps) (not including running into people) was the when you where in town last, that is kinda odd but I think it is true. Ok again have a great trip and I look forward to seeing the pictures.

seriously, there needs to be a set of words that can evoke an image and feeling stronger than what, "i love you' says. There are only so many "very"'s that can be added before needing to go into numerical powers. ie; 'I love you very much to the googolplex power. um, yeh..
(i know you know what i mean, haha)
mmmm i love the idea of skipping through leaves followed by something warm to drink- and pumpkin AND zucchini bread this is such a great time of year. i'm melancholy for you that you haven't experienced it in a long while.

Aww love. I'm so happy for you!
Aww love. I'm so happy for you!
HI!! And congrats. :)
First of all congrats. Second of all that is a pretty interesting article. I don't claim to be an expert but I doubt the conditions will change much for the workers anytime soon. One of the problems with global economy is that it kinda kills group strength or any type of organised labor. For example lets say Some of these people decided we want better rights and they started to demand them, all the company has to do is grab them and there passports and send them back and then find other people who would work in those conditions by tricking them or because it is still maybe better then where they are. I think that unless there is some kind of world standard like how we have a minimum wage and certain laws then global workers will just make workers make less money. It is like these class of people work wise sound like they are lower then the untochable class or atleast pretty close.
congrats. Be sure to explore the deeps of lake Erie next time you are in town.
