Peanuts by Charles Bukowski:
answers that never arrive by Bukowski
answers that never arrive
I sit by the window and listen to the rain
come down
and I think about why we
do these things
we sit with our elbows on these
brick walls,
talking
bickering
lamenting the passing of our youth,
and what it means to be
young.
we write letters to Santa Claus
tell him about how
we've been good
we should get presents
waiting for answers that never arrive.
we spend our days and nights
drinking
screwing
screaming our heads off
and all it ever really does
is make my stomach
hurt

goodbye earlCategory: music
I love the fact that I'm watching Fast Food Nation while I am having Arby's for dinner. The movie is a series of fictional stories based on the actual non-fiction book of the same name. Interesting to watch, but rightfully disturbing.
I don't know if you would call Me First and the Gimme Gimmes newest album disturbing (entitled Love Their Country), but it certainly is interesting. I definitely like their version of Goodbye Earl much better than the Dixie Chicks versions. T. got me hooked on MFGG awhile back. I think my all-time favorite album from them is "Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah". Of all the bar mitzvah rock cover band albums in the world... it certainly is the greatest.
Oh, and there's a new musical based on the movie "Legally Blonde". Yeah.

I will admit I had never heard of "Me First and the gimmie Gimmies" until not sure when but when they had Warped tour down at LaSalle Park. If you have never seen them live you really should they where awesome. There is no way for me to remember what songs they did Other then "over the rainbow" and that song Kermit sings "Why are there so many songs about rainbows", I can remember them say here is another gay song, great line by the way. You gotta like a band that only does Covers and does it in there own punk kinda style. I guess I will add another CD to the list of CD's I want. I have heard of Fast Food nation but didn't know it was based of a a book it sounds like it might be interesting to see, but with how much fast food I eat maybe it is a movie for the weekend sometime.

reservation bluesCategory: dating
Last week, I went up to Brockport to visit A. I had a great time with him. He's so thoughtful and fun to be around. Anyway, we walked around town, went to a really nice Greek restaurant for dinner, and spent some time watching movies together. One of the places he took me to was a little park with a waterfall near a converted old mill. Here are a couple of pictures of it:
A great book that I read recently was Sherman Alexie's Reservation Blues . It has a heartbreaking ending- but it really is a funny novel. It starts off with the premise that the blues singer Robert Johnson faked his own death; and that he comes to a Spokane Indian reservation to seek refugee from the devil. His guitar falls in the hands of a local rock band and makes them famous. While it's a novel about music, it's also about religion, relationships, and what its like for people who live on reservations.

(e:libertad)- the author's name is Sherman Alexie. He's written some other really good books, too. I forgot the name of the park, but I'll ask aaron next time I talk to him.
(e:jason)- but wiki-surfing is so fun!

My roommate was just telling me he wants to read a book by a native author. What is the authors name? Oh and Brockport is kinda a romantic town and it would be good for a date. I love the canal there. What is the name of that park? I have heard of it, but have never gone.

A book with Robert Johnson in its premise. REALLY. It makes me wonder about that guy. Lord. I don't want to get sucked into wiki-surfing again.

i don't know whyCategory: news
I don't know why that it shocks people that Bush commuted Scooter Libby's sentence.
I also don't understand why people would start campaigns to impeach Bush (well, I understand why they would...). Look who would take over if Bush had to leave office. Would you rather replace him for Cheney?

(e:drew)- I think they could be co-impeached; though, as you said, they probably didn't leave enough evidence.
(e:james)- That's true... I remember Bill Clinton pardoned some controversial choices during the end of his last term.

It is like having a fatal disease. Everyone knows you are going to die but they are still saddened when you do.
Though, people were curious how Bush and company was going to play it. Pardoning him or not could be beneficial depending on what happened during the appeals process. A bit of clemency without a full pardon but with the possibility of said pardon keeps the fall guy a fall guy.
That and presidents usually clean up their shit the day before the uhaul parks infront of the White House and they leave office. Bush did it a year and a half prior. So...
And to be fair to our friends here more to the right, Democratic presidents have offered scores of seedy folks clemency to cover their asses.
Enjoy your democracy.

If they committed conspiracy, than could they be co-impeached? The speaker of the house is next in line.
I think that conspiracy has a pretty high burden of proof, and they were probably smart enough to not leave enough evidence.
Perhaps simply bring charges against Cheney?

Lately, I've really been getting into podcasts for my i-pod shuffle. I like to listen to some of the programs from NPR-such as Democracy Now and Science Friday. Actually, a really cool NPR program that is podcasted on I-tunes is called "All Songs Considered". All Songs Considered features a few select artists each week. Sometimes they are indie or unknown artists; other times they are established mainstream performers. It introduced me to some new bands/artists that I like- "Ok Gogol" (Ukranian rock lounge band), Elizabeth Cook (country singer), the National, and Hypernova (Iranian Stroke-esque rock group).
They Might Be Giants, Hem, and Wilco both have their own feeds. It's interesting to have performers discuss their songwriting process while they play their own songs.
What programs do you listen to?
museumchick - 07/03/07 13:00
You know... come to think of it... I think you might of put the National on a mix you made awhile back. The mix you made was great- it introduced me to some really cool artists like Marlena Shaw.

When podcasts first got reallyreally popular I listened to CBC Radio 3, an hour-long showcase of new Canadian music. If you like All Songs Considered, you'd probably dig it. They always had some good, interesting music on [and also some weird stuff]. I would probably still listen to it, but the technology of podcasts doesn't quite fit in with the rest of my life.

(e:james)- I bet if anyone is up to the task, it would be Matt Dillion.
(e:drew)- I'm glad you liked it.
Wow. I just read the whole link. I love it. It's so cool how true he stays to the characters, even as they speak with a totally different voice.
I hear tell that Matt Dillon is playing Chuck in a movie. How many cigarettes and bottles of ersatz-booze do you think they will go through during the corse of filming?
