Turning Down Teaching
Category: work
So after turning down teaching Realspace Electronics at UB and 3D Modeling at Medaille , today I turned down teaching a course on Digital Culture because it just wouldn't fit in my schedule and it was way to demanding of material to start preparing for only a couple weeks before the semester began. I think teaching isn't really a good deal, especially when I have to pay $706/month in student loans. The course subject actually appeals to me but not so much in the format it is presented, as it is a lecture course. I can do it this year, but I really need a better solution fo rthe future. One that at least includes health insurance before I turn 30.

In this case, it's also about the commute. Once again I need to commute back and forth from UB North to Canisius and I refuse to do it more than one time per day, especially in the winter semester. It is such hell in the winter, waiting for that bus after the subway or worse yet waiting for the bus at UB to take me back to the subway to Canisius to teach. I can never rely on it being on time!

After weighing it out, teaching this class was really not profitable for me as my salary and contract wasn't even going to change much, they offered me 10 hours in the lab instead of 12 per week, yet I would pick up a demanding lecture course of 25 students, the month before school starts. Maybe I will teach it some day in the future. There is always next year.

PS. If someone were to offer me a position teaching more web deisgn, programming, data management, web interactivity type of a class, I would definately say yes.

Living on Elmwood
Category: estrip
Who here has lived on elmwood previously but moved off because it was getting too expenisve. Moreover, who had wanted to live on elmwood but couldn't afford the rising cost of living on the strip?
metalpeter - 08/02/05 19:09
I wanted to live on Elmwood. I didn't have enough money to live on richmond. I might be able to move there now. But I've got a great landlord and way to many posters and Video tapes and Photo albums to move. So I havn't really looked into how much it would be. The killer is I would have to move somewhere with heat included I could never be able to pay the gas bills in the winter.

Drunk Polish People
Category: web
I found this crazy site with lots of drunken polish people while searching for pictures of capibara . Google made the connection. A lot of them are funny, some of them are sick

There wasn't, the link actually with the capibera was of a python eating it, and the person had a link to this site in their signature.
uncutsaniflush - 08/01/05 21:27
that site is one of the many reasons some in Poland are still mourning the end of communism in Poland.

Under the communist government people got just as drunk, if not drunker, and passed out but no one dared publish pix like this because they didn't want to end up in jail.

By the way, paul, was there a pic of a capibara and a passed out pole on the website? LOL if there was I couldn't find it

Niagara Falls
Category: memories
(e:terry) and I went with (e:iriesara) and Elijah to go
see Niagara Falls. We took the lovely toxic trail to get there. You
know Praxair Nuclear Waste dump then the Noco sponsored grand island
bridge oil spill zone. Finally a run down factory lane and into the
Falls. Note: Parking is only $5 at the Rainbow Center, $5 cheaper than
across the street.

Once we arrived, we headed out to goat island. It is quite nice. Has
anyone else seen the great lakes gardens, each plot is the shape of a
great lake.

Too bad (e:matthew) couldn't come, now the pictures will be low res and
crappy.

The 10,000 Party
Category: events
American theme worked. The 10,000 party was fantastic. Just about everybody brought a bottle of something, quickly transformiing our house into a bar. I was fine until pat suggested we do several shots of goldschlager, my favorite drink. I don't drink very often or very much, so the multiple shot policy reduced me to on the floor only mode by 2am, shortly after showering (e:mike) with the bus tokens that were slotted for our "charity run."

We met a lot of new people and it was great on all accounts. I missed the video game part but I hear (e:ladycroft) plays a mean mariocart. She also makes delicious vegatarian zuchini squares. To bad you missed that (e:leetee) !!

For the record both (e:jason) and (e:joshua) do exist and they are both pretty cool guys.

Now onto the crazy part geoffrey was insane. He spilled his drinks everywhere including on his ride, stomped all around like royalty, and finally, while being escorted out by (e:hodown) said -who is that bitch throwing me off my stage, referring to the porch. He truly topped his already over the top self. The poor girl he was with had only been friends with him for a month.

Also both Sara Ross (e:iriesara) and Emily Keating (e:emilyjane) showed up but Emily had no idea Sara would be there. It was a fun surprise.

Okay, time to right 10,000 more entries!!

jason - 08/01/05 12:24
The girl he came with was Jennifer. She was a beautiful and really nice person. I can't believe she handled Geoffrey so well. She's a saint, much like myself.
