I am totally thrown for a loop on how the google search engine chooses pages. On yahoo, ask jeeves, lycos, etc we are up in the top ten - often number 1, but on google, where we used to be number 1 for the longest time, we are no longer mentioned. Any ideas? I resubmitted the site today but it seems that once it is submitted it should be searched by the bots repeatedly.
Check it out:

Some of the links to our site come from the craziest places. I just got here from a site about a party that a professor I know is having. Does anyone else have a site they could put links to here on. We would greatly appreciate it. The more links, especially local ones, the better.
>>>update - In response to this journal entry, someone sent sent us this information about google searches. Maybe some of you'll will be interested.
Hey Elmwood,
Google has a more intricate ranking system then the others that you mention. One of the places that you most want to be linked to is other sites that come up for the same search. If you want to rank higher for the search term 'elmwood strip' try to submit your site for link exchange on those which already score highly. Also, google examines your outgoing links under the premise that an informational site will link to other informational sites. I notice that although you have a strong community focus, most of the discussions on your site tend to be either personal or else of broad political significance. Try creating some areas on your site that list local retailers and events, and link to other sites that do so. Link to Buffalo News or Artvoice stories when you can, if such a link would fit into the topic that you're already discussing. Hope this helps. -Josh

Testers for the Image SystemI have redone the code for uploading images, flash, and drawings. It now places your images into dated folders. The image library will not work properly now. I am currently divising a new system for it that will allow for smoother browsing of your old images.
However, in the meantime please upload images, flash, and sketches so that we can find out if there are any problems.
>>update: Luckily, I tested the Sketch system at school ,as it did not work on Mac Internet Explorer or Safari. It should be good to go now.
