Katrina article
Category: news
For those of you who like artvoice and even those that think it is a shit rag there is a good article on Katrina. For only being a few pages I think it is very good. It does touch on racial isssues, funding, Bush, FEMA, and an interesting fact that there where buses but they where running on a sunday schedulle and that there where plenty of buses to get out the poor. In any event I think it would make an interesting read.

Over there
Category: war
First of all to everyone who commentend on Elmwood and its spreeding to grant st thank you. If I got you pissed offJason sorry about that. I may have more thoughts about elmwood later. For those of you that can tell I like TV shows and Movies. I like them for the same reason as people who read books for the stories. Plus some sex and action also. I admit I think war is awfull and I wish we could avoid it. I think our current war in Iraq is pointless. We are spending money that we could be using to help the poor in our own country and fixing a lot of problems this country has. For example New Orleans. But I have to admit I like war shows like China Beach, and Band of Brothers. But right now I'm really into overthere. It is on FX on Wendsday nights at 10pm. It may conflict with South Park when the new episodes come on. I think it is good that there is a TV show that covers the war that is going on, at the same time that the war is going on. I know that has happenend before but not in a long time. I skiped the last Conseravative show kinda tired and There is going to be a lot of work to do on thursday I would rather relax watching overthere and then go to blue friday on friday. I think over there has some interesting characters and tells the story in an interesting view.

Elmwood Expansion
Category: poll
First of all I don’t know how often I’m going to do this but the idea came to be that when I express an opinion that I could make it into a poll. I know it isn’t as fun as a fire pole but oh well. Anyone who wants to or feels like it can answer in the comments section. I will not keep stats on the results. .

I know there are some parts of Grant street that are nice. For example Tops Plaza and the Post Office. There are a couple places on forest. To bad there isn’t a good restaurant where Plate-oh was. But that got me thinking about Elmwood sprawl or growth. I grew up on grant and near grant and grant is a poor neighborhood , not all of it but some of it. Parkdale I know used to be a crazy street with lots of drug activity. I know someone who bought a house that used to be a drug house near the post office. The way Richmond is zoned you can’t have any businesses on it. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have some businesses that spring up on the side streets and main streets like Forest, Delevan, and Utica. I wonder if the fortunes of Elmwood will spread to Grant and help it out. I know there are some good businesses there like Guericios and Frontier and sandbor sports. But It would be nice to see it become an Elmwood Jr. I wish it would but I don’t think it will. What do you guys think? (I say C)

A)    Grant is fine how it is
B)    Grant will become a better neighborhood on its own
C)    Elmwood will expand but not as far as Grant
D)    The Elmwood neighborhood will branch out to Grant
E)    Buff State will buy houses and rent to students helping grant
F)    Homeowners wanting to be near Elmwood will push out drugs
G)    Other (what ever you think will happen)

i grew up on west avenue, but when i was 8 or 9 it got too rough so my parents moved us.

on a completely separate note, you don't happen to work at office max, do you?

that's a great question, meterpeter.

leetee and I live between Grant and Niagara on Bird. I'm not that I can answer the question with a simple ABC, etc.

I think Grant is ok (not fine) as it now. Leetee saw someone shooting up at 8:30 am on on a stoop a couple of doors up from the Post Office. It was a woman whom we strongly suspect is a prostitue. Stuff like that makes sad more than anything else. Drugs and prostitution go hand in hand in big cities. If Grant was fine, she wouldn't have seen that.

We believe in the area - We better because we bought a house.

I don't think that Grant will ever be another Elmwood. But I think it will get better. There are a lot of nice cheap houses in good shape in the area and as the areas West of Elmwood and Richmond become more expensive, people who want to live in Buffalo and be near Delaware Park and the Elmwood Strip will slowly start renting and buying further and further West because they can't afford to live between Elmwood and Richmond.

Then you have "crazy" people like us who fell in love with a house and a neighborhood despite it being a bit seedy and run down. We feel safe. Of course, I'm not sure if I would want to be in front of the Stage One club at 3 am. But there a lot of clubs in a lot of nieghborhoods that I could say that about.

We love that we have a good bakery Luigi's on Forest and a good produce/etc store like Guercio's within walking distance.

Two of the things we were looking for in a neighborhood was a bakery and a produce market within walking distance. And we got it. And we're also about a mile from Elmwood, the Tops on Grant and about a mile and a quarter from the Wegmens on Amherst. Thanks walking distance on a good day. And easy biking distance if it isn't raining or snowing. yes, i'm a wuss.

On our block there are a lot of homes in good shape and from we've seen walking and biking in our 'hood our block is not unique on the Westside.

We think the Westside will make a comeback.

Wedding
On Saturday I went to my cousin Alison's wedding with my family. There where mostly people that I didn't know there but it was fun. It was out side I forget the exact name of the place it was something like duffington. It is past springville I think it is in Sardina. The wedding ceremony was infront of an appletree and there was a reading it was interesting. The cabbins where nice. Most of dinner was vegatarian I had a few Kobobs they where good, yummy. There was a band who's name I forget I guess they play at Allen St. Hardware they where good. After desert out of nowhare came a marching band (from broklyn). There where very good I think the style of music is called baltic. After a few songs they marched down to in front of a big cabin/lodge type building. They palyed and people danced and had stuff to drink and played foseball. Then after thata DJ mixed on turn tables in side. Later I went to the campfire that was funny but hot, but still fun. I don't know if I really gave a good description but I that the general idea is gotton. I also went on a couple of little trails through the woods and found the Creek and took pictures. A bunch of people stayed the night and had brunch this morning. I had a bagel and ICED TEA and potatoes they where verry good. It was nice to see some people who I havn't seen in some time. I know that it wasn't what you would call a traditonal wedding but it was a lot of fun. It looked like a lot of people who knew the bride and groom did a lot of work. But that also saves money. There is no reason to go into huge debt over a wedding in my oppion. On monday I going to a little get togather I hope everyone else has a great holiday also. [bgcolor]#6396ef[/bgcolor]

Traditional weddings are a bore. Fortunately I haven't had to go to too many. And personally, I would much rather sock all the money into the honeymoon ;)
