New Feature

For a pre v2.0 surprise I decided to let everyone have flash capability on their journals. I know its hard to keep up with so many features but . . . Depending on how it goes I will decide about its long term viability. Right now your .swf file will be required to be under 100k. They will also have to be formatted to fit 400 x 300 pixels. If not they will get auto reforatted to 400 x 300 pixels.

This should satisify most people need for interactivity, sounds and animation. I am also thinking about hosting a (e:strip) basic flash class over spring break one day.

To add flash to you journal, simply use the Flash upload form located under your journal publish form on your write page. Have fun.

“Environmental Racism in New York State”

TOMORROW!

Press conference in downtown Buffalo this Thursday at 11 am! Citizens’ Environmental Coalition and the Toxic Waste/Lupus, along with a coalition of groups across New York State, will release a new report. “Environmental Racism in New York State”
When: Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 11:00 a.m.

Where: Outside the Donovan State Office Building
125 Main Street
Buffalo, NY

Why: The Department of Environmental Conservation’s Environmental Justice policy, while citing improvements in citizen participation in environmental justice communities, fails to correct current siting policy, which could continue the past practice of disproportionately
siting polluting facilities in communities of the poor. This practice causes certain segments of society to bear an unfair toxic burden.

Scheduled speakers include: Amy Liberatore, Citizens’ Environmental Coaltion; Judith Anderson, Toxic Waste / Lupus Coalition, and a representative from Erie County Legislator George (Butch) Holt’s office.
Supporters from Assemblymember Crystal Peoples’ office will also attend. CEC will provide signs for those who wish to hold one.

DIRECTIONS: Donovan Building, take Main Street all the way down to the “T” intersection (you can’t go any farther). Make a right turn and come down Washington. Donovan Building’s Washington entrance is just across from the Buffalo News building.

The Elmwood Web Cam is Back

The web cam sucessfully tested under a variety of conenctions from my sidekick to mac at UB to my laptop on wireless, to emily's mac on elmwood. Hopefully more of you got to see it. It should be a pretty permanent feature here although dependent on supercomp being alive.

Here are some example pics.

Porn is Not Allowed Here

Sorry,
Porn is not allowed in your elmwoodstrip userPics or journal entries. Our ISP charges an additional $40/month for having a porn site and that was never the intention of this project. If you would like to start a porn/sex based journal - please check out yahoo's sex blog directory

Come to Soundlab

Come out to Soundlab tonight to see a bunch of video and installation work. Some of it was created by our very own elmwoodstrippers. Robin is showing a video and Soyeon is doing some sort of installation work. Pardon me if someone else here is showing something I am unaware of. I also was going to try and do something but it was to last minute for me. Anyways, it should be fun.

You can find out directions and more information at the Soundlab site

HTML Denial Notice

This will mean nothing to those of you that don't code in HTML.

People kept fucking shit up by trying to post HTML code to their journal. Before, I left the ability to add HTML code for those of you who wanted to spice stuff up a little. I figured people would look and see if it messed the journal up and take it out if it did in any way. Well, most people who posted it did not, and the journals kept getting messed up and I had to keep fixing them. So HTML is no longer being accepted or processed!

I spent the evening stripping out all of the HTML out of the previous journals, as well as, preventing it from entering into future ones. From now on, when you type HTML into your journal, it will simply display it as the code in your journal.

This is actually great for people who would like to explain how to use code. You simply type it and it will show up in your journal as code for others to see.

For example
<p>Here is a <font size="10">new</font> paragraph</p>

<table><tr><td>help</td></tr></table>

In case you are wondering, all of your old styles have been converted to accommodate for this. Moreover, the highlight style has been standardized, check it out in your stylebox.

This leaves me responsible for making new style options, expect them shortly with the release of v1.9 and the major upgrade to v2.0. I think you will be happy.

Please email me if you have any further questions or concerns. Hopefully, this will end the display problems.
