pano's contraversy
“… Pano of Pano’s Restaurant applied for a demolition permit to destroy 1089 Elmwood, the former Carriage Trade bakery, for a surface parking lot. The house, a magnificent Queen Anne, was built circa 1894 for Edward Atwater and is also called the Atwater House. It is the oldest house on the block.

“… downtown Buffalo, which has sacrificed about 50% of its real estate to parking, is, well, dead compared to Elmwood Avenue, which has largely resisted civic AIDS (Architectural Integrity Deficiency Syndrome). Elmwood has an intact streetscape, almost no parking lots, and is the healthiest neighborhood in Buffalo.

The case comes before the Preservation Board on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 3:00 pm in Room 920 of City Hall. There is an online petition at www.petitiononline.com/1089elm/petition.html

I love Pano's don't get me wrong, but I would be very pissed if they continued the trend of knocking down beautiful buildings to make parking lots. I know that the city of Buffalo is a pro at doing that, but the Elmwood area is different, for a reason!

Please sign the petition.

Peace,
Steve

thursday in the square
Oh man, if Thursday in the square gets canned, or moved for that matter it would be a big blow to the downtown area. I'm sorry if these old veterans don't understand what good comes out of these events, but they need to worry about something else. Let the good times keep rollin!

My friends and I would go to the Square every thursday, spend money, and enjoy the city! We would always make it a point to meet on one particular side of that monument as well, because otherwise it's impossible to find anyone.

Long live thursday in the square!
Peace,
Steve

craigslist
I was happy to see that the craiglist for buffalo finally went active. I wouldn't worry about it hurting elmwoodstrip though. Out here in Los Angeles, there are thousands of postings everyday...obviously because of the increased poplulation. Over all, it's a great tool for jobs, apartment hunting and free stuff. That is actually my favorite section, the free stuff section. With people moving away at a drop of a hat out here, there are always postings from people giving away all their stuff because they can't haul it back to wherever they are going.

I wouldn't worry at all....elmwoodstrip rules.

On another note, Sqb, I love your photography. I really love seeing pictures from the elmwood area, because that is where I used to live before I moved out here to California. I am finding out more and more that I don't like this area at all (hollywood), and even though there is nothing for my career (film) in buffalo, I think I'm ultimately more happy there, and will most likely re-locate back to the elmwood area. I would love to get a really nice place with a few apartments in it, and rent out the others while I myself live in one.

Even though the economy is hurting, the weather is not the best and the sports teams are hurting, there is something about the elmwood area that just makes one feel welcome.

Peace,
Steve

So last night at work was exciting....the whole entire jackson family came in to celebrate Michael's birthday. I work at a restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. It was quite the night...paparatzi where everywhere....but the Jackson security guards took care of them. I got to talk to Michael and Janet, both were really nice and very down to earth.

I have to say though, that the best part of the night was drinking left over cristal!

Another hollywood moment....

Steve
