So I decided to take the chalk advertising into my own hands and took Terry out with me. After completing the laundry at the Village laundromat, I grabbed the box of chalk and headed out.
We went down the street and wrote elmwoodstrip.com everywhere. Matthew and I are heading out to take pics of it later. At M&T we got some slack from the 70 year old "suckurity" guard. We actually had written it by the church and he came out to say angrily, "we don't need any of that here." Terry told him to mind his own business and that it was public property. I continued writing while he angrily looked on and then we left. I mean we are not selling anything. We are trying to create a free public forum. What is so wrong with that.
At Kalista, the stylist came out, brush in hand and asked us what it about. I explained what the site was and that we wern't selling anything. She said she just wanted to make sure we were not writing anything dirty! I tried to explain that it was a community forum where people could say what they wanted.
Its amazing how difficult it is to create a public forum in a place where no free public forum exists. Especially since we lost our little elwmoodstrip park next to Wilson's Farms and it became another store.
