Im reporting from Macworld in San Francisco. The keynote was ok, the new powerbooks, now called Macbooks are cool, but they have clumsy names in my opinion. They have an intel chip and should run much faster, but the thing is only apple's software and quark I think don't have to run in emulation, so they aren't that fast yet, by the summer I think we will start to see more of the major companies porting stuff over to x86 chips. The iMac also has an intel chip now. Also apple created software called iWeb which lets users 'simply' create webpages, from templates. people can manage blogs, podcasts, and there own webpages on .mac in this way. From what I saw you can't upload to an FTP client, if you can do this easily I think so many students, especially where i go to school, will do this instead of learning what is going on with a webpage and this could hurt many people in the long run. It is quite a nifty program, though, in a template sort of way. The CEO of intel showed up at the keynote as well, which was cool because he appeared in a cloud of smoke dressed in a white jumpsuite like in their old commercials.
btw my first computer was mac SE i believe, we got it in 1986, i was 2 years old at the time.
I'll post some pictures tonight.

I am in this class that Paul is referring to and while i may not be one of the students he is directly referring to what he says still is very accurate for the way our students approach programming, it actually caused me to take a step back and work on my project without cut and paste methods, and I progressed today, a lot. Another thing that bothers me about our students, and this is probably true of most undergraduate programs similar to ours at canisius, is that people do not keep up with current technology and seemingly just don't care sometimes, whether it is new features in photoshop, how flash continues to improve on its handling of video or what and how ajax works, it seems like people just don't care. maybe i'm wrong and don't talk to enough people, but some many times have people said to me "wow, i didn't know it did that!" and i would like to respnd "yeah...well you should seeing as how you are dedicating your life to stuff like this." but i usually just say "yeah i know, it's cool".

chchcheck it outCategory: web design
nicholasbarone.com is up and running anybody who has some time please check it out and tell me what you think, it is an all flash based site right now that contains an xml photogallery and bio page, i will be updating it with more content as time goes on. I think the menu is uncessarily "weird" in how I wrote it and i will probably be changing the terms back to normal i.e. labyrinth design to web design.

Mac OS X86So im a loser and i watch rumour sites update during any steve jobs keynote address, well it has happened now Apple will be switching to pentium over the long term, this is avery weird for me because i grew up hating pentium but there processors seem to be a bit faster than IBM or motorolas and as long as apple doesn't infuriate there fanbase now by this move it will probably be the right thing. At least now i wont have to explain why these computers "aren't really that slow" anymore or listen to someone bash Mac's for there speed when it is motorola's processor.
some of apple old ads have a very ironic feel now

Of course they have new laptops, now that we bought my mom a powerbook for christmas. When will I learn not to buy apple in december??
But what I really want to know is: did they announce the one thing I've been patiently waiting for (I don't see any evidence that they did): a wireless mighty mouse?
Enjoy SF...
