My love of TV commercial music

It all started with Ingrid Michaelson's old navy commercial (e:paul,41443)

Then I heard this JC Penny song the other day

The Stony Rebels - Unbelievable

But the real winner was OMG "Oh My God" by Ida Maria that plays for the intro to the Gossip Girl Commercial.

Here is their site:
The wikipedia article:
Last FM:

I searched for so long before finding it. Okay for like 5 minutes but thats a lot for me. These one have seem to have potential. I love bands that have a lot of recordings on youtube. I also love their unpolished sound. It reminds me of my most favorite singer Kimya Dawson.

This is the more polished official video

This video, I live you so much better when you are naked is so inspired by Nina Hagen.

Bad Boy Bill at the strip club

In Buffalo. Who is going to go with me? (e:imk2)? The last time I saw him play was a at a club in Phoenix back in 1999 and it was a great show. He is doing a tour for his latest CD

Little bit of Rave history

So my favoritest of favorite raves was this one Syrous party at Cinespace in Toronto. It was some giant movie studio maybe. Anyways, I remember the laser show was insane amazing and ther music was different than anything I had heard at all the other parties up to that point.

image
image
image

The lasers were insane. I know I just said it but I remeber that was the only time I was ever really impressed by a light show.

image
image

So I found these images online but I have the flyer upstairs. I remember looking it up before and none of the djs music matched what I remembered. Then looking over this forum carefully I saw that Mickey Finn (UK) was replaced by Andy C because of imigration problems.

Mickey Finn was originally billed but due to immigration he couldn't enter the country. We were lucky enough to get Andy C to spin.

How crazy is that? (e:hodown) remembers this party too I am sure. I think we even saw my cousin Christina there.

A great night of dancing and rocky

Wow, this is a long journal but the videos are funny. The music is art festival turned out to be pretty great despite the rain. Lots of people showed up.

image

Here was the electronic music stage on the side of the building. It was a great stage, speaker setup, location - except that it was on a hill and the grass was wet.

image

We were there during the day with (e:matthew)'s sister Mary, (e:jim) and (e:james) but it was pouring. At night we went back with (e:mike) to go see Dharma Lab . I didn't take any pictures because it was dark out and I was busy dancing, oh - ya and it was pouring but here is a pic of Chris from Dharma Lab, we went to high school together.

image

Everytime I see him, I always promise him I will go see them and something comes up. This time I actually was able to make it and the venue and music were both awesome. Another member of the group is is (e:soma)'s brother. I saw (e:soma) dancing in the crowd.

The set was amazing. I had not had so much fun dancing since a goa party in germany that (e:terry) and I attended oh so many years ago ;( I saw people taking pics I wonder if anything is online yet.

I danced like mad. In fact I am so curious to see what happend to the poor lawn at the Albright Knox after all the people dancing and stomping everywhere in the rain. I have a feeling they did not think it out very much considering the time of year and the amount of people. That grass is going to seriously look like shit for a good long while.

Afterwards, the evening did not end. We saw Kristina and Rocky there and then went back to the house to hang out and play risk - oh and drink milk shakes. It was nice to see Kristina who I hadn't seen in so long.

image

image

image

I actually didn't play risk but the rest of them did. I think rocky and (e:terry) drank a whole case of beer. Then Rocky wanted to go out dancing at Ms. Kitty's the lesbian bar turned dance club OHM. As with the rest fo the day - it started pouring so we sat on the porch and watched the storm as (e:Terry) and Rocky babbled nonsense back and forth to each other. Kristina said he usually doesn't have anyone to go on with liek that so it stops and I thought the same about (e:terry) - they started to sound like two insane asylum patients - it was pretty funny.

Kritina decided to go home - Kristina got off easy, lol. I baby sat the beer boys with (e:mike) to make sure they didn't get in too much trouble, drinking water the whole time.

OHM is not a dance club - it was fucking Country Western - everyone had cowboy hats and bolo ties. Rocky was drunk enough to ask if they could change the music, lol.

So we spent the rest of the night at Cathode, just (e:mike), (e:terry), Rocky and I having a guys night out at the gay bar. Sadly, we were the only people there and we danced the whole time to the video screen and Videos of Robyn . Apparently, rocky really likes to dance too. He and (e:Terry) play fought, then (e:mike) and (e:terry) and rocky and (e:mike), eventually a bottle of beer spilled.

The vjay played some political videos which were pretty funny:
A cartoon called Campaignin'

A video of george bush fucks america, it is so funny

And then the gayest video I ever saw ended the evening

When we got home I showed Rocky to his room but he kept going down stairs and trying to walk home. I was like dude, "How do you expect me to explain to your wife that you walked home to amherst and I didn't know where you are?" He refused to sleep so (e:matthew) had the brilliant idea to put on some looney toons DVD and like in ten minutes he was snoring.

In the morning when I work up, it looked like he couldn't figure out the door and tried to escape out the window in the vestibule. Oh beer.

WEMF 2008 more videos from youtube

As I said before, to me, Andy C was the best DJ at WEMF 2008. His opening set was so crazy. We were laying down in our tent netx to the stage and at that point and ran out to dance for the rest of his 3 hour set.

Oh I just found the mp3 on dogsonacid.com

::DOWNLOAD SOUND::

Here it is in a youtube video

I love these kind of moments. They are few and far between when I have full suspension of disbelief and just dance like there is nothing else going on in the world

This one shows the crowd a little more

The sound on this video is so muffled out and is obviously missing a whole range of the sound plus the feeling of the bass shaking the ground but try and imagine this on the speakers shown in the pic on from my last journal (e:paul,45082)

Oh, and here is the original flyer

Wemf 2008 was insane

It was such an amazing time at a campsite right outside of Algonquin park in Canada. The music was awesome - I have never danced so hard in my life. I think the pinnacle was listening to Andy C of Saturday night. They are going to post recordings from WEMF 2008 at sometime next week. Until then, and before I put up some pictures, he is a video with Andy C's music. Try and imagine this playing on 2 sets of speakers that were 2 stories tall and 2 stories wide. And a while giant row of bass speakers.

image

There are notes you just can't hear on this recording, not to mention the ground sharking for about a mile around. And that was only one of four main stages not to mention the 5 other renegade stages. The secondary main stage was similar in size.

We got to swim in a lake near by. The weather was amazing. In fact it was a little to amazing and we had to hide in our tent for a while on Saturday.

I don't know how I am going to feel tomorrow considering I slept for about 4 hours this whole weekend and spent a lot of time stuck in traffic. Might be the recipe for a sick day.

It took us a whiel to get there becaue we hit standstill traffic from Toronto to Barre. I took this picture, just as we were hitting the traffic jam.
image

Once we got there it was another hour waiting to have our car searched.

image

He is a small section of the tent village. I would say there were at least 5000 people. (e:terry) thought more.
image

This was the best cotume I saw. not that many people were outside saturday afternoon. The weather was just too hot and too sunny. I even got a little sunburned.
image

Here ares some other videos taken at the event I found on youtube. This was at the 4x4 stage which was where Dr. Trance, OS/2 and anabolic frolic played back to back, just before Stoneface and Terminal which is what this video is of. It was so nostaglic.

Right after that was Mark EG who also played a fantastic set. Sorry they are all dark but I didn't take them. Thanks to wheover did, (e:terry) and I were busy danicng our butts off during this.

UPdate from septmeber 2008 - I found the best recording of the Andy C on youtube recently, here it is:

WEMF - World Electronic Music Festival

I went to the first WEMF and I really want to go to the last one. It is a weekend long electronic music festival in Canada. Problem is that tickets ($90 or $120) are expensive and I have no friends. Which could pose a problem. (e:matthew) and (e:terry) surely will not go. Tickmaster is sold out but I found a another place that has tickets. Maybe I should just go by myself. I never do things by myself anymore and I used all the time when I was in college. That is how I met most of my friends.

Outro by Blumchen

I really like this song. Okay no really I am just testing uploading this for (e:jenks) and (e:joshua) but I do like it. It was 1.8MB and in MP3 format. I am not sure about music uploads as I don't want to get sued.

Kimya Dawson In Buffalo Again

It was fun to see Kimya Dawson on Thursday night at the Tralf. It wasn't quite the same as the other two times we saw her at Mohawk Place. My favorite time was when we got to talk to her (e:paul,30882) and we got tee-shirts that she drew for us. Mine had a tortoise on it.

This time the line was long.
image

She played a great set. It was kind of annoying that you could hear and feel the Marcellas "Boom, boom, boom" the whole time.

image

She was the same goodness as always but played a little faster than I remembered.
[flv]0408/KimyaInBuffalo0413.flv[/flv]

It was weird that most of the people in the audience were there because if the Juno movie. It reminded me of the difference between seeing Tugboat Annie play in our friends church basement and then seeing them at a big concert later.

One guy yelled out something like, I liked you before Juno and she kind of ripped him apart till the point he left. I thought that was kind of awkward but he was really being a jerk. He also kept making fun of Buffalo as he was from Seattle or something.

I still love her and her music. She has a baby now.

They have food and tables at the Tralf which is pretty cool.

image

I made (e:terry) wear his little birdy.
image

the best part was not being IDed and not because the guy thought I was too old to get a drinking bracelet, but because he thought I was TOO YOUNG to get one. He wouldn't even believe my ID at first. (e:mike), my seven year younger brother did get proofed. That was terrific.

Freaky Co-incidence

I just spent the last couple hours searching for a fireplace and floor repairman on Angie's List It is a great way to search for service professionals in your area and see consumers feedback for them. I hope it works out. Ironically, the one company I set up an appointment with, Amherst Refinishing, was not on angies list but called me back five minutes after I put in an estimate request on their website - on a sunday night. We then set up an appointment for tomorrow. How crazy is that for web service?

Anyways, so I was still searching around when I found a link to some Goa music stuff going on in Germany. I am still obsessed with that type of music despite its absolute non-existence in my life. I kept searching for things I had been to in Germany to see if there was any video and it and I happened upon the site of an event that happen last night. I wish I could have gone. It is like the music my computer would dance to.

It made me think of my friend Yvonne from Germany who I hadn't seen in a long time and then all of a sudden, blam - I get a message from her on estrip. What are the chances of that. It has been years. I am going to call her tomorrow night.
