Flux Pavillion - AE Stage Pittsburgh

We went to see Flux Pavillion at the AE stage in Pittsburgh on Saturday. I thought that Wilkinson was playing which was the real reason I wanted to go. Sadly he couldn't make it to his American tour?

We stayed for a couple hours but I'm honestly just not a Flux Pavillion fan. The music just doesn't flow for me. Also, it was so weird going to a EDM concert instead of a rave. The DKs had sets then you just waited in between. I can't remember the last time I went to a EDM event where there were large periods of no music and lights on in between the sets. It was like a concert during intermission.

The visuals were nice at least.

Everyday Noodle

We ate at an amazing dim sum and noodle restaurant called Everyday Noodle in Pittsburgh last night.

I love dim sum and they make everything there fresh. The kitchen is viewable with a big glass window across the entire dining room. I
It's really interesting to watch the dough being made.

The dining room was so crowded we had to wait a half hour for a table in a line that went out the front door. While waiting can be annoying, I think is usually a good indicator about a restaurants quality.

The tofu skin with woodear mushroom was delicious.

The soup dumplings were also amazing. They are basically steamed dumplings full of soup. I had the crab and pork and plain pork ones. we also had veggie dumplings that were really good but they didn't have soup inside.

Get in your car now and drive there.

Basra Eats Yellow Jackets

Basra doesn't give a shit about the plague of yellow jackets that have descended on our back yard. He literally eats them when they get in the way.

Local Wheatfield Gardens Cucumbers

These amazing cucumbers are delicious and available everywhere. The cost varies considerably. I would suggest getting them at Guercios where they are much cheaper than at the Lexington Coop or Wegmans.

Curtain Up

(e:mike) and I went out to curtain up because I couldn't go to Catland for Dana's birthday. We were not dressed up which is unusual for me. Then we headed over the Marcella's. It was less busy than I remembered it being on a Saturday. Afterwards we braved a stabbing by heading over to the underground. We found there is a very small divide between two buildings that you can slide through. We didn't go though. I know (e:joe) would have gone. Next time.

We didn't make it Jim's Steakout at the end. I kind of wish we did.

Homemade Sushi - Shiitake Garlic Wine Style

This was extremely yummy. I started out with sliced fresh shiitake mushrooms with garlic and lots of olive oil, butter and salt. Once they soaked all the grease up I started pouring on dark red wine. I kept adding wine or oil till it was all about the consistency and taste of steak fat.

Then made sushi rice - 2 cups water, 2 cups sushi rice that was rinsed till the water ran clear. Then into the rice cooker. Let cool a bit.

Next I mixed 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp brown rice vinegar, 1 tbsp salt and microwaved it for like 30-40 seconds till the dry ingredients absorbed. This doesn't smell great but it works.

Then took the liquid and folded it into the rice.

Next put the rice on the nori, sushi wrapper seaweed, and smear it around but leaving space at the end in order to seal it shut. Take the mushrooms and some thinly sliced carrot and cucumber and put it on the rice.

Next roll it into a tube shape, then with a very sharp knife, cut into slices.
