Wow! I'm old enough to think that booting up in a minute is fast. When I first got to work with an IBM pc at work in the early '80s, I think I could go down the street for an ice cream and get back befpre the system was booted. Anyone remember the 2 floppy drives PCs?

The box e:leetee uses runs a selectively updated (by me) pclinuxos 2007 http://pclinuxos.com/ for stability. We have an asus eee 901 that's running moblin 2.1 http://moblin.org/ . I couldn't stand the Xandros gui that the eee came with. I have a couple of boxes that play with. I like e17 (more accurately Enligthenment DR17) http://www.enlightenment.org/ so I really like elive http://www.elivecd.org/ which debian with e17. I tend to play with the latest development versions and push them until they break.

I also run Arch with e17. I'm a distro whore so I've always got a few random distros floating around on stray partitions. I think that I stopped counting how many distros I played when I reached a 100 about 4 years ago.

This actually reminds me of a misunderstanding that I had with my friend, not long back. We had a very public crazy drama right on Elmwood - I think we are back to being what we were before. So sometimes, time mends opinions as well as viewpoints on even the most weird and insanely illogical things on both sides.

Sometimes the toughest test of who really feels like being your friend through thick and thin is how much they are willing to forgive.

If you are sorry and feel it sincerely, I am sure you must have conveyed it as best as you could. I think you should now let go if you know you have done your best and accept whatever happens - because its probably for your best as well.

Good Luck!

Thanks e:jim - yes, I can't get that document ever because of two reasons. The first main reason is I can't drive here. I think I might be pathologically incapable of sticking to the direction of the lanes here - and its not for the lack of trying.

An evil voice in my head (that probably traveled with me from Delhi) urges me to switch to the opposite side when I go on autopilot mode. Quite unfortunately, I follow this voice without fail.

And of course, I am a 100% alien as far from a US citizenship as only a decrepit koala bear can be. :)

I was thinking of getting a resident state non-driver's license ID though - I may not have to lug around my passport and visa at all times then.

Wow - thanks so much for the detailed responses e:uncutsaniflush. Had fun reading them. :)

I did a full install of the latest Ubuntu version on the latest Toshiba laptop (my parent's)- and it took a full minute and some odd seconds to boot up. My mum asked me if it was "up yet" - and she is probably the MOST patient person around!

Keeping a laptop turned on for over a few hours is not really an option for my parents - so boot-up time is a big deal.

Thanks for the Arch recommendation - I will be sure to try it out. I am now really curious to know which distro you and e:leetee run. :)

You make some great points. If I found someone crazy enough or stupid enough I would do it in a second assuming it was mutal. I like your idea of a few people on a beach some place.

I have heard of some amazing weddings and went to two One was Timika's & Rory and the other was my cousins. She had it at this Camp in the woods with cabins and it was outside and you stayed over and a Marching band came out of nowhere it was really nice.

There was this show on that I thought was great it was called "The Real Wedding Crashers". People would hire these people to crash the wedding and cause problems, it was great it really was, think a wedding/Punked.

I have heard of theme weddings that are about the people. For example both are big Star wars fans so the wedding party is all in costume. In fact when I first heard when Timika's was I even asked her if it was a theme wedding and what I meant was if people would be dressed in costumes. I have heard of that.

I admit I did think of a wedding I would like to be part of. Sorry to steal your thunder a bit. But just a Fantasy, no not a fetish one. But lets say I meet someone at a concert and then we saw that band again. That would be the theme. Yes we would rehire the band the wedding would might be where we saw them. Yes everyone would come and there would be music playing. Yes the atire would be rock show. Maybe I would even pay for merch. The band would play a few songs deepending on how well known they are. Then the band calls us up on stage and the house lights go on and we do everything up there. Maybe if there is a favorite song of us both one of the band memembers reads the lyrics maybe not, who knows. Then maybe the band does an encore maybe not. Maybe so people can dance the band could do covers or maybe not. Maybe for people who like the band they can go get a special band wedding shirt and have the band sign it. Unlike a real show we would be paying for it not the people there. Hey maybe the band could sell some regular merch. Just an idea. The point is that a Wedding is something special and it should be. It would be nice if everyone had ones that reflected who they are, but then if everyone did that wouldn't it be the same problem. "Dude this is my 3rd starwars wedding, and I'm sick of all the costumes being worn by people who are way to big for them".

if it got lost in here good post.
