08/05/07 18:14 - 83ºF - ID#40393Category: vacationThe Ledges in Vermont 2007
The last day of our trip we headed over to The Ledges in Vermont. Herelink is a whole site about the place.

The Ledges, named for its large stone outcroppings, is a small section of the undeveloped 28-mile public recreational shoreline of Harriman Reservoir near Wilmington, Vermont. Many forms of "The Creator's" most beautiful work can be found here in distant mountain views, clean water, wildlife, sunsets, and the unclothed human body. On any hot summer day as many as 300-400 people can be found quietly relaxing and socializing in various states of dress. This quote is taken from Friends of the Ledges

Here are some pics other people tooklink

It is one of the largest free public nudist swimming holes in the USA. The water was really low and you could see why the place was called the ledges. The other times we were there the water was too high e:paul,32076 The water was so low I couldn't jump off the swinging rope because you could see the rocks in the water below. I wasn't going to break my legs to swing off the rope.

e:matthew fed this duck popcorn for about an hour.

Thanks to the miracle of SPF 45 we still did not get burned even in the glaring sun.

0807/PaulViscoAtThelEdges20070805.jpg

Dave got our picture at there (see below) to compliment this one e:paul,32022 from back in 2005
0807/PMTAtTheLedges2007OnDivingRock0805.jpg

This year we got one from the other side too, lol.

0807/PMTAtTheLedges2007LookingBack0805.jpg

There are hundreds of naked people at the ledges, so it wasn't weird at all. That is till some really tan weirdo asked Dave if he was our Dad. When he said no, he asked if he was our uncle, then our grandfather. What a freako. I wish you guys could have seen his creepiness.

Once again we were the only people under 35 accept for one other guy who was 24 and really quite a nervous fellow. There were evn many people in what appeared to be their 70s-90s. I find it amazing that people have the courage to walk on treacherous rock trails naked with a cane.

08/05/07 18:14 - 83ºF - ID#40394Category: vacationJabe Pond, Adironacks - Vacation 2007
We made our annual trek to Jabe Pond in the Adirondacks followed by The Ledges in Vermont. We had to forgo, the usual trip to Rock River in Vermont because this year we didn't have as much time as usual due to Dave's work schedule.

The weather was fabulous. It was between 80-90 the whole time with no rain. In fact the only wetness we encountered that was not in the form of a swimming hole, was the dew this morning on the field we camped in Vermont on our way home.

0807/GreenWood0805.jpg

The first part of the week we stayed at our usual get away at Jabe Pond. According to some nudist book that Dave has from the 80s, it is a nudist place. We hardly ever see anyone there besides the odd fisherman and I have never seen a nudist there but since there is no one else there...

Here we are launching our canoes in order to canoe out the the campsite which is on an island.

0807/JabePondLaunchingTheBoats0805.jpg

The campsite is great. It is really isolated and yet big enough of an island to make a great campout.
0807/Campsite0805.jpg
0807/SittingAroundCampAtJabePond20805.jpg

We canoed and swam a lot. It was the perfect weather for both and thanks to SPF 45 sun screen no one got burned this year.

We ate heathy things like watermelong
0807/YummyWatermelon0805.jpg

and tasty things like organic peppered bacon. I freakin' love bacon.
0807/CampingFood0805.jpg

We swam and canoed a lot. I think this is the only time I really full on swam this whole summer which is sad. Every other time we tried to go, the beach here on Lake Erie was closed for pollution.

0807/FloatingInJabePond0805.jpg

We swam so much that e:terry got goggle burn at one point.
0807/GoggleBurn0805.jpg

We all had this ridiculous euro trunkslink , which were believe it or not, the only swimming-like gear we found left at Walmart. I guess it is the end of the season and Walmart was all that was around at the time of purchase. I mean they look like we ordered them out of a gay fashion swimsuit catalog. Apparently, they are popular I searched on Men's Underwear and Swimwear Guidelink and found this thread with some other pics of people wearinglink at USG

0807/TerryAndMatthewEuroTrunks0805.jpg

We sat around a lot and relaxed.
0807/SittingAroundCampAtJabePond0805.jpg

At night time we sat around some more. Our friend Dave is obsessed with having fires. Even though it was like 80-90 degrees the whole time I think if we had gone along with it, he would have had a campfire 24/7. I am one of those people that like to only have a campfire when I am cooking or freezing. Sometime at night for a bit. But honestly, I hate all the smoke that comes with drunk people making fires. Eventually, he or someone else throws in leaves or bark or something stupid liek pine needles and we all almost die of smoke inhalation for five minutes. Same with wet wood.

Someone else before us started a mini forest fire. That scares the hell out of me. I can only imagine drunk people not payig attention to their fire as it spreads across the dry pine needle floor. The picture really doesn't do the burn hole justice. It was about 8 feet across and about 2 feet deep.

0807/BurnHoleJabePond20070805.jpg

We collected far too much firewood. We honestly only used a tiny portion of this but we collected it all first. I guess after the bad weather last year we were just cautious.

0807/FirewoodExcess0805.jpg

At night I discovered that my camera took pictures in High ISO mode which allow sit to virtually see daylight at nightitime.
Here is a picture before using high ISO mode.
0807/PictureBeforeHighIsoMode0805.jpg

I am not sure what high iso mode is as it normally can be dialed up to ISO 1600 but then there is high ISO after that. Why not have a number associated with it. Is it 3200 ISO? It is a bit grainy but wow, this is the same picture, same lighting in high ISO mode.
0807/PictureAfterHighIsoMode0805.jpg

Here is the campfire in high ISO.
0807/HighIsoCampfire0805.jpg

Here is a cool pic e:matthew took using my camera. He used the light from a torch to make the glow behind e:terry.
0807/MatthewPicHighIsoMode0805.jpg

Apparently, it made him very happy.
0807/SmileyMathew0805.jpg

The next day we swam and canoed so much more. I actually got tired from swimming but it was hard to stop knowing it probably would be one of the last times I got to swim this summer.
0807/AboutToCanoeAtJabePondPaulViscoMatthewSliwinski0805.jpg

We were on our way to go to the swam where we saw a snapping turtle last year, when e:matthew's camera broke.
0807/MatthewCanoeingAtJabePond0805.jpg

It just stopped taking pictures like normal. It kind of reminded me when my Nokia 7710 camera's died e:paul,32341 Here he looks sad.
0807/BrokenCamera0805.jpg

See, e:terry doesn't just hide behind curtains in the living room.

The pink house on the corner of North Pearl and Allen is for sale. i wish I could buy it. I think it would fit e:hodown quite well. You should move here and buy it. It is bigger than my house but pink and with apartments in it.

It's the one on the corner and it is for sale by owner. I never realized how big the one next to it is.

The cut the trees down on Franklin. I guess it is the aftermath of October surprise.

The building at 920 main street caved in on the inside and the floor in front of the door is missing.
0807/920MainStreetCaveIn0806.jpg

At least it looks like a cave in when you look through the glass. I mean it doesn;t look like it could be intentional.

Looks like the store front on the corner of Allen and Main is turning into a gallery this week.

The touch screen on my PPC 6700 stopped working which leaves me in a weird place as the iphone doesn't do what I want and I don't want this phone anymore. I might just get a tmobile sidekick again. That was the best device I ever had and now that I always carry a camera anyways I could care less about the quality of the camera.

Yesterday at work I was kind of sick thoughout the afternoon but I figured it was just something unsettled in my stomach. 12 hours later I am still mega sick to my stomach. I wish it would just end as I am not in the mood to spend anymore time in the bathroom. I hope it wasn't form the dinner on Wed night. The only other thing I ate was the fajita lunch at roswell, hm. But e:enknot and e:jim ate that too. I guess I did eat a cliff bar that looked kind of iffy. I threw out the bad looking part and ate the rest. Is anyone else sick?

At least today is awesome because they came out with a true mozilla based browserlink for my not phone that has flash 9. It does the site exactly as it should, sounds and all.

And I guess stomach flu can stop me from programming now that I have a sweet laptop with all my work on it. Wait a minute is that a blessing or do I now work like 24/7. Okay, at least I love it!

I would like to thank e:tinypliny and e:imk2 for their donation to the site last month. I hadn't logged into the account until today and noticed. If anybody else ever wants to donate, just click the donate link to the right of the latest entries list. It works with paypal.

On another note, my surebert accordian menulink worked out great. It works on my nokia n800, terry powerPC mac, my macbook, IE 6 on windows, and in firefox. I bet it even works on the iphone - although how does the iphone handle mouseover. Anyways, it can be switched to work on mousedown instead. I am sure I will find a use for it here on estrip soon. I wish it was like the old days when I could program estrip 24/7.

Notice the surebert color picker widget in the one section. That should be easier than the surebert rgb slider for most people to understand.

08/10/07 18:24 - 82ºF - ID#40480Category: artPutting Stuff on Youtube
After programming today, I was going through an old hardrive with my ten thousand art projects and misc stuff on them and found some of the video files were 0k. Argh, I was so mad, so I decided to take some of the video that I have already put on the web or on other harddrives and put it on youtube too. That way hopefully, one place or another it will exist.

Okay this is so fuckin rediculous that I can't even believe I did it. I remember I ran out of time to video edit at school so I was left with windows movie maker at work. It sucks so bad, but now it is kind of funny looking back. All the movements and stuff were scripted. If only I had a mac during that phase ;( but that was after the powerbook died.

I also foudn lots of video we took documenting our life and about 10,000 more pictures to add to my 1,000,000 pictures. Back in 1999-2000 e:terry , e:jacob , and I took this crazy trip from flagstaff, AZ to Vancouver and then across Canada back to Buffalo. I wrote about it lots of times and all the crazy shit that happend but now I lost half the video thanks to a harddrive failure. I am so mad. At least this half will exists on youtube.

I am now going to go crazy trying to find everything else.

I can't believe how valuable my second life money from 2003 has become. I used to have so much of it and kept just giving it away. If only I knew it would be worth so much someday.

This is my current account balance in Linden Dollars and it's US dollar value if I sold it now.

0807/Conversion0812.gif

And this is after I already sold half of it. Today I actually sold a very tiny 16m of virtual land I owned from a long time ago for 34 US dollars. I wish I had realized this all before as I sold some super undervalued land in the past.

While considering some land deals I stopped at a dance party. It was pretty fun. Unfortunately, it was a best of biker avatars contest and I didn't have on of those.

I got a call at work today asking me if I was interested in a job at Yahoo. e:twisted seems to be sold on me taking it, but I find it hard to imagine I could live as fancy a life as I do here even if I was making a lot more money. Like I only have to get up twenty minutes before work here and there is a ~5min commute not to mention I live in a freakin' mansion.

They found me via my online resumelink

The ideal candidate will have a strong command of web standards and developing applications, CSS-driven/table-less HTML layouts, DHTML (JavaScript 1.0-1.5, CSS1 & CSS2, DOM Levels 0-2), PHP, Unix, HTTP (get/post, headers), Apache, cross-browser compatibility & browser degradation strategies, optimization techniques (both in file weight and perceived/actual rendering speed), object-oriented design, unit testing & debugging techniques, dynamic content retrieval, state management, accessibility techniques, and internationalization issues.

The candidate will be taking static mocks and flash prototypes from the designer and working with the team to produce a working prototype.

The environment is fast-paced with numerous user-centered iterative design & development cycles. You'll be responsible for building everything from proof-of-concepts and usability prototypes to deployment-quality code viewed by tens of millions of users.
If you're interested, please provide URLs and code samples of your work.
Location: Sunnyvale, CA

I guess it is something to think about. I mean it would be tremendously exciting to work on code that is used by millions of people and to work with people on the cutting edge of the industry and with the resources to make really exciting stuff happen. But what if Yahoo tanks and Microsoft bought it ;(

The building on Main street that I reported about last week e:paul,40420 continues to fall in on itself. Word on the street is that the roof collapsed and the floors below collapsed because of that. You can really see it all collapsed on the inside from the street. Now they have it blocked off. It is a DANGER! according to the police and probably according to everyone.
0807/920MainStreetDangerSign0815.jpg

I wonder what is going to happen with it. It seems like gutting it would be really hard considering it is a pile of fallen debris and floors. Even the basement floor is missing. Apparently, this is what happens when you ignore roof repair and the weather gets in. Is there going to just be a big giant whole in main street across from the Amherst subway station?!

0807/920MainStreetDanger0815.jpg

I suppose something has to be done soon.

I finally got my phone back but these pics are from before the phone came back. If you have a sprint Pocket PC 6700 and need a new operating system I got it. Lots of new features, same old phone. Its like getting a free upgrade. You never really realize how much software plays a role in the lifespan of hardware. I took them with as still shots of the mobile video cam on my nokia n800 so excuse teh quality it was never meant for photography.

I was really sad to say goodbye to my first computer desk. It is amazing how long we stayed together. I had it since my first commodore vic 20 back in the mid 80s ;( It really just had no where to go anymore and laptops kind of made the desk obsolete. Plus it was ugly as hell.
