I would be happy to see israel blown off the face of earth. I just don't see what good it is supporting them. Imagine how different our relationship with the Arabs would be of we gave up on Israel.

Not only that but if the whole thing was blown away no one would fight over all the bullshit religious monuments. I think the only way to move on is to start with rubble.

Dude this is at least, if not more, controversial than my post way back during the 50th anniversary of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings. I'm not going to yell or scream but that shit was appalling, Paul!

By the way, the Palestinians have routinely violated their own cease-fires and continually launch rockets into Israel, killing civilians daily. I'm fine with people decrying civilian deaths in Gaza and heavy-handedness as long as they are intellectually honest, which most critics of Israel are not. No mention or criticism of Hamas terrorist activities are quite telling.

I have no interest in appeasing the Arabs, and I think it is stupid to speculate about how great our relationship with the Arab governments would be if we abandoned Israel. SCREW the Arab governments. With or without Israel they've never been our friends and never will be. It is lunacy, absolutely lunacy to think that if we stopped supporting Israel that the problems the Arabs have with us are over. Without the US support there would be a second holocaust, bottom line, or even worse, a nuclear war could erupt in the region. If Iran or any of Israel's neighbors attempted to invade Israel, what do you think would happen to the capitals of those countries? It is way to scary to even speculate and I guarantee that the outcome would be worse than what is currently going on.

The Palestinian/Israeli issue is never going to be solved. We've had very smart people all over the world trying to solve this for 60 years, and we still don't have an answer. Now, Hamas is an elected power in Gaza, which has legitimized a terrorist organization within the Palestinian government. There is nothing different, improved or special about our current crop of leaders, and they'll never be able to affect an issue that is essentially Biblical, thousands of years old.

Well the first problem is A war would break out trying to decide who gets to nuke it, HA, but seriously I think one would. If my memory is correct there is this wall and one one side is a Mosques and on the other side is the jews and it is called the Wailing wall and it is considered holly to both sides. I don't know if it is true but I have heard that a long long long long time ago that area was set up so that everyone could prey there and there was like an army that if you messed with anyone else preying there would attack you and then some stuff happened and who ever got control of that area changed. But not really sure about that.

I think the real problem comes from fundementalism or extremism and that is a faith thing it is a kind or type of faith that drives people to kill if you don't think the way they do, and I don't know if there is any way to get rid of that.

The US and Israel have virtually the same jewish population. Yet, somehow we have 50% more Muslims and the two groups don't fight over Brooklyn.

I don't understand the conflict completely. It goes back centuries as a conflict between the Middle East and Europeans. Anti-Jewish sentiment in the MIddle East is a relatively new development. While Europeans were slaughtering Jews annually just for kicks, the enlightened Muslim empires allowed both Christian and Jew to live and serve their country... and I am going to stop myself because I don't want to write a book here, and my understanding is limited.

But, for fucks sake, the US, the EU, and Russia need to sit down with both sides and say "Mother Fuckers, two states, right now. Or I am going to get crazy on your ass."

*simplistically* I blame the British for this and for the India-Pakistan conflict. Without their messing around with borders and defining of peoples and nations, there would be less war at the moment.

I'm looking for a primer on the conflict but the issues are so complicated that even the simplest FAQs are dense with historical and cultural references and complex language/vocabulary. So far this is the best one:

Ever since I first heard that nursery rhyme about the three men in a tub I was hooked on the dynamics of a three person male relationship. I am not saying any of these pictures of are men in "romantic relationships" but they are obviously close friends. One book that e:matthew had said that men were much closer in general before homosexuality was clinically defined at the turn of the century. Supposedly, it strained regular male relationships because they did not want to be seen as gay.

Anyways, I was going through this website

I seriously cannot believe this article on being "Buffalo-ish" which they describe as similar to being Jewish. Its offensive for Buffalonians, its offensive to Jews, it makes no sense. It is pretty much just pure crap. Maybe there just aren't enough good things to say about Buffalo anymore that they need more filler crap. To make it worse the article is written by an x-buffalonian living in Chicago, who left Buffalo because of the weather? What an idiot.

I admit I liked the article. I think that a lot of what he says is true, out side of Buffalo we do get no respect we are known for our wings and snow (even though other places get more snow then we do). Not sure about the comparison to Jews, it makes sense if he is a Jew, it makes even more sense since to me they seem like a Minority here. But the next time you watch a sports event notice that most Buffalo fans in another city are most often in groups. That thing with the sports teams I have seen happen before. Yes the article does seem like he wrote it like a poem but maybe that is his writting style I was going to leave a response there but it won't let me log in.

Did anyone else catch this gem? "This is the first in a 3-part installment by John Wingspread Howell" What pisses me off is that this is exactly how a number of people that I know perceive the situation here. I don't mean the Jewish comparison which is just insanity. (like being Jewish in Tehran! Really? You think so?)

What I mean is this strange working class elitism reinforced by sports fanaticism. These articles and conversations that make Buffalo out to be little more than a frozen shit hole where you can only get drunk and watch sports exposes the fundamental disconnect between the people who are working to create something, and those who wish to gain some level of "street cred" for having grown up in a rust belt city.

Personally I think the unfriendly experiences this ex-pat writer has in other cities is probably rooted in his air of superiority. He probably tells his friends how much cooler than them he is for having spent time here.
