Additional quicktime plugin required error

If you are having trouble getting quicktime to play media files such as midi, mp3 or video files such as 3gpp (posted mobile videos) then you need to follow these instructions.

Quicktime 6.5.2 Firefox Setup

  1. Download Quicktime and installlink
  2. Close all instances of Firefox
  3. Launch Quicktime
  4. Go to Edit > Preferences > Quicktime Preferences
  5. Select "Browser Plug-in" from the Drop-down Menu
  6. Click "Mime Settings"
  7. Under audio check the .wav, .aif, .midi boxes
  8. Under mp3 check both boxes
  9. Check the .3gpp and .3gpp2 boxes
  10. Click "OK"

If you already have the lastest verison of quicktime and your mime settings look right, it could be that some freakin' rougue windows application hijacked your mime type settings. Try reclaiming them by following steps 2-9 above. If your mime settings are already checked correctly, uncheck one and recheck it to force those settings to be reapplied.
