How do I publish a journal entry?

Publishing a journal on the site is easy. Just log in and click the "my journal" typewriter icon in the control panel. The "publish a journal entry" form is displayed at the top of your journal page while you are logged in.

Click on the "publish a journal entry" title bar to show or hide the journal publish form.

Enter a title in the Title field and type your journal entry into the text box below. When you are done, click publish and your new journal entry will show up for all to see.

If you would like to preview your journal entry first, simply click on the "Draft" box before publishing. Your journal entry will be visible only to you as long as the "Draft" box is checked. To make changes to your journal entry, click the "update entry" typewriter icon below that entry. When you're ready to make your entry visible to everyone, uncheck the "Draft" box before publishing. Or, you can click on the closed eye icon at the bottom of any non-public entry to make it visible to everyone.

There are also lots of style options and media upload features available in the "style box" at the very top of the journal publish form. Here you can add search tags and text formatting using the buttons provided.

Search tags put a search icon in your journal that links to a search for the word or phrase you put between the search tags. When you're editing your journal the tags look something like this: [tag]typeHere[/tag].

search The estrip tag inserts a site search for the specified word or phrase -

google_search The google tag inserts a Google search for the specified word or phrase -

wikipedia The Wikipedia tag inserts a search of the open source Wikipedia encyclopedia the specified word or phrase -

wiktionary The Wiktionary tag inserts a search of the open source Wiktionary dictionary for the specified word or phrase -

search The googlemap tag inserts a link to a Google Map of the specified address -

. The googlemap tag defaults to Buffalo, NY, so you only have to specify the city and state for non-Buffalo, NY addresses.

verizon - The business tag inserts a link to a Verizon search of the specified business name -

. The business tag defaults to Buffalo, NY, so you only have to specify the city and state for non-Buffalo, NYaddresses.

You can also hide portions of your journal entry by enclosing the part you want to hide between the
[hide]hide tags[/hide]
. The hidden portion will be visible only to you when you are logged in displayed in strike-thru format.

Styling your journal entry text is easy using the sites simple style tags. BY using style tags you can make bold, italic, strike through, small caps, and underlined text, as well as, change the font size and color

Text Formatting Tags tell the browser how to display the information between the tags. When you're editing your journal the tags look like this: . The special formatting is applied to the text inside
the tags when your entry is published.

s for small text

m for medium text

l for large text

xl for xl text

xxl for xxl text

Special functions and features like spellcheck, sketch, img library, and color pallette are on the next line.

Spellcheck - run spellcheck on the entry. Misspelled words are highlighted in the popup window with suggested replacements. Click the best replacement to correct the word in your journal entry.

Img Library - displays the library of all images you have previously uploaded so you can delete them and/or use them again.

Color palette allows you to add color to your text and background.

At the very bottom of your journal is a form to upload media. The num files++ button allow you to add upload up to 5 files at a time.

To upload a file simply browse for it and then when ready click "add media" to upload it. It is very similar to adding an attachment to an email.

emoticons (smilies) - Basic emoticons will be displayed as graphical smilie faces when your journal is published.
