Paul Visco on Twitter

So I figured seeing as I joined facebook, I might as well also join twitter. Twitter always irritated me the most because I wanted to start something similar my second year into estrip and everyone told me it was stupid and no one would want to write about everything they were doing.

Same thing with my mobile restaurant review site from 2003-04. I guess I was just on mobile internet before it caught and then got totally consumed by my job at Roswell by 2005. If only times had been different or I had lived in a more online city. Not that I hate what I am doing or anything but I just feel it could have all been so different.

So the real point was that when I went to go sign up for twitter I chose the account name paulsidekick and it told me someone already had it. I was so pissed because I use that name for everything. Its like Tony's enknot for me.

So I went to go check it out and it was me after all. Apparently, I signed up in May of 2008 for twitter and just forgot about it. Either than or another paulsidekick was waiting for terry to get home with money.

The thing is I can't figure out how this ties into my much more interestingly described weekend on estrip (e:paul,44454) or any of the month of may where I don't mention twitter at all

Facebook and Terrorists

I was reading about the swedish suicide bomber story and they mentioned he had a link to a facebook group that had burning towers as their profile pic. So I looked them up and sure enough, it exists. Then I realized I must have still had facebook login cookie set which probably they have now profiled me as a terrorist. I hate facebook already.

Apparently, he had a swedish wife and left behind children. It seems so insane to me that anyone would care enough about anything not directly happening to them, to want to blow themselves up.

This guy doesn't fit the hollywood driven vision of what a terrorist should look like at all. I found it interesting that it also mentions he was seeking a second wife at muslima.com There is a site for everything now.

Mike at his happiest

He gets so excited about anything glitter based.

image

We spent the whole day christmas shopping for my parents at best buy. I hope they like their gift.

Then we went to pick out a tree for my mom at Adams. My father is done with real trees but my mom still wants one so my father asked me to get one for my mom. (e:mike) and I are really useless at making decisions like which tree is the best one to buy.

Paul Visco Facebook

So I signed up for facebook. I played with it for a little bit. It did a good job of suggesting all the people who would be friends with me but then I felt overwhelmed with having to choose and interact with a lot of people who I am not very connected to. It reminded me of why I avoided myspace but it was worse because it has the potential for making you feel guilty about not being interested.

image

I found it ironic that my capture phrase was "reaming liberation."
image

At first I tried to integrate the "like" button with the blogs but it ruins it all if people started just "liking" and "commenting" on facebook instead of commenting on the blogs itself. Eventually, the facebook stuff would get out of sync or change format and the associated information would be forever lost. I can't seem to find one good integration point.

Robocalls restricted in NY

(e:libertad), you will be happy:

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- As of Saturday, December 11, "robo"-calls are subject to stronger regulations in New York State.

Under a new law which takes affect this weekend, New Yorkers who've signed up for the state's "Do Not Call" list should no longer receive automated-message telemarketing calls.

I am still torn on if this means I should get on that list or not. At first my mom said yes but then I heard it was some sort of scam to collect more phone numbers.

Starting to wonder...

If I am going to die from this plague. I can't wait till my dermatology appt on Wednesday. It seems so ridiculous that I have money and health insurance and its taken two weeks so far before I can see a dermatologist.

Everyday I think its going to start going away and it gets worse. In a way it does seems like the original ones are fading but new ones are coming in places I did not have them before.

Grooveshark.com - is it legal?

I always am so behind on internet crap because I barely surf the web for entertainment purposes.

Tonight, I decided to spend a little more time visiting the chrome app store

image

I am not really sure what the advantage of the chrome app store is other than a place to easily find the apps. Unlike the app stores on mobile devices there is no app to install per se. So it seems kind of like a store that sells/helps you locate urls? Isn't that just a search engine?

To its credit, I found grooveshark.com from it.

image

Anyhow, grooveshark.com seems totally amazing. I am able to search for and listen to just about any music I want, kind of like rhapsody.com but it appears to be free and I can rewind and replay whatever songs I want. Maybe I just haven't gotten to the catch yet but it seems easier than have to maintain my own library minus the it only plays when online part.

image

i was curious how they could do this legally so I went ahead and searched for is grooveshark.com legal and how there is a whole lot of drama there. Check out this yahoo answers for example or this arstechnica forum

Its interesting because it seems like the company tends to respond to the questions.

I still don't really understand how it is I can listen to whatever music I want and not pay anything. They don't even have audio advertisements like pandora and clearly, when you listen to the site you aren't looking at it much so the ads to the side are kind of useful.

They must have deals with the record labels, but what kind of deals. I mean this seems "free" like as in free from back in the napster days. The fact that they let anyone upload songs is great for independent artists but I find it hard to believe that Michael Stipe decided to upload all the R.E.M albums I am currently listening to.

In a way I am jealous as I would like to work on something like that web app much more than dealing with all the rules and regulations of dealing with employee and patient data in the hospital setting that makes up my life now. It must be so fun to make stuff simply for entertainment purposes. Maybe it would feel meaningless. Or maybe it would just be so much less stressful.

You can even download the music with this simple little hack that I am sure makes it all totally illegal. I am not suggesting it.

Feeder Fish

I used yo have a turtle that ate these. Glad I just have a vegetarian tortoise now although he is being such a pain right now. Today and I had to bathe him and oil his shell. He is getting so fat that I need to put him on a diet but eating is like his only entertainment.

He is getting so big now.

Estrip SSL certificate authority

I am so tired of needing SSL certs or having to ignore or confirm exceptions. I decided to just create my own certificate authority, once my systems trust that, they trust any of my certs.

If you are in a sketchy place and want to use the SSL version of estrip to protect your session you can.

First accept the estrip server as a certificate authority. Using firefox it is easy, go to and check all three boxes. Then just go to the ssl version of the site for the rest of your trip. You can do the same thing with other browser but you will need to follow you OSes way of importing certificate authorities as chrome, safari and IE all use the OSes cert trust store unlike firefox which has its own.

As a side note flash uploads will not work without having your OS truststore accept estrip as a certificate authority, however, drag/drop and mobile site upload will.
