Nothing to worry about

So even though I pigged out over the Easter weekend and have been raiding my kids' baskets daily ever since (aka "applying the Daddy tax"), I'm still somehow holding steady at 169.

Nice. Now here's hoping I can continue moving forward in the weeks ahead.

Jetsetting

So it looks like (e:enknot), Cathy ((e:webnovice)) and I will be heading to Chicago in June for a conference . It's more for Cathy since she heads up the content for our main website, but Tony and I are going in order to help steer her excitement after hearing about the latest trends in "web content" appropriately. Plus I'm sure we'll pick up some good stuff, in spite of it not being programming-oriented.

The past seven years have definitely been the most well-traveled of my life. Since I began at the Roz I've been to:

Rochester multiple times (I don't think that counts too much though)
Santa Clara (Oct 2003)
Pittsburgh (Feb 2004)
San Francisco (March 2005)
San Jose (Nov 2005)
Seattle (July 2007)
Philadelphia (Feb 2008)
and now Chicago.

I try to work as much sightseeing into the time that I'm away as I can since my personal vacations typically involve visiting friends in the DC area or mice in Florida.

So far Seattle's been my favorite, by a mile. San Jose was a distant second. The EMP in Seattle was pretty amazing and "The Tech" in San Jose had a huge video game history exhibit when I was there.

I went to Chicago back in 1997 to check out a school I was interested in attending at the time (but never did). I remember there being lots of stuff to see and do so maybe this will overtake San Jose for the second spot; but there's no way Seattle could get trumped.

I interrupt people a lot

Not as much as some people I know, but definitely more than most people I know.

We're doing a study in church on the book of James (not not you, (e:james)) and one of the main themes is that of holding your tongue.

All the examples that our pastor keeps using are pretty condemning. But in a good way... I definitely don't want to be construed as a "me me me" kind of person.

Something to work on.

I am a tired, lazy man.

Last night she had the strangest dream

Landing under sniper fire, no greeting ceremony... puh-lease.

I love the part when the aides come in towards the end and start spinning.

Amnesty week

I have been SO bad the past 7 days that I'm granting myself an amnesty week. I will weigh myself next Tuesday and continue the tradition.

Shut up. It's my blog and I can do what I want. :)

4 year olds keeping secrets != possible

Chrissy had to run out Friday directly after I came home from work but before she left, in front of Delaney she says "We got you a special surprise for Easter, but you have to wait. Delaney is going to make sure she keeps her secret -- right, Delaney?" Of course Delaney says yes.

An hour later I'm upstairs taking her little sister to the potty and Delaney just voluntarily blurts out "So we got you a chocolate iPod for Easter, isn't that great?" I look at her sideways and ask "Um, is that the secret you're not supposed to tell me?"

"Yes but I really wanted to tell you... Can we go eat it now?"

Priceless memory right there. :)

The waiting is the hardest part

I categorized this as "work" but it's not Roz-related...

I put in a bid on a BIG job last week and am waiting for their decision. I was supposed to know by this past Wednesday but the project manager told me that the business owner was out of town and hasn't had the chance to fully mull it over yet. She told me I'd receive word either way (it's just me up against some other group) so I'm remaining optimistic.

My competitor said they would be using .Net Nuke as the framework they'd be using and I said that I would build it custom-tailored to their specific needs, and in a language that isn't Windows Server dependent. I hope she appreciated those facts and that they didn't just go misunderstood.

It's really going to challenge me and my skill set but I think that's what I could use right now, professionally-speaking. I feel like I've atrophied a bit since my job became more management and less development.

Everybody please keep your fingers crossed!

It's been a half hour or so which means it's time to go check Gmail again...

Naked from the neck up

On a whim, I shaved off my beard today. Talk about instantaneous regret. I look in the mirror now and feel so unbalanced...
