Savion Glover

Tonight the wife and I went to see Savion Glover at the UB Center for the Arts.

Who is Savion Glover, you may ask? Just one of, if not the, best tap dancer alive. (WIKIPEDIA - Savion_Glover)

image

He performed with an excellent old school jazz trio. I wouldn't consider myself a "tap fan" per se, but this guy is unique enough to his trade that I couldn't resist going.

One cool thing about him is that he smiles the whole time he's dancing. I dunno... I got a kick out of that.

I won't go out of my way to see him again because to be honest it's a little repetitive (at least to my untrained eye) but it's definitely one more thing I can check off my "things to see before I die" to-do list.

I'm on the verge of a raise

Well sorta. Once this is all over I'll be spending about $40/month less than I do currently. Diapers are crazy expensive.

We started potty training our youngest yesterday now that she's 2. She stayed dry almost the whole day. Atta girl! I'm so proud of her.

We're using M&M's an incentive and it appears to be working. Each time she goes she gets one. Kinda like a carrot on a stick.

There will be tough times ahead I know (been there, done that with our oldest) but the wife and I are enjoying the initial success, for sure.

Speaking of the Terminator

Ohhhh snap. Christian Bale's going to have a stake in a summer blockbuster two years in a row.

I'm already looking forward to next year's summer blockbusters and the goodness that 2008 has in store hasn't even begun yet.

Terminator: Oh come on!

So next week is the season finale? What the flip! It just started.

Well, here's hoping that it's done well enough in the ratings to warrant a return.

I love this show. I mean, after viewing each episode I'm cooling with never seeing it again as a repeat, but while it's on it's definitely an enjoyable time.

Bedtime

On two different occasions earlier this week I felt bad for our youngest and laid down next to her at bedtime. She's had a nasty cough, just like her dad, for the past two weeks. It only shows up in the morning and in the evening. How convenient. Enough to keep her awake when she should be falling asleep after a long day and enough to wake her up when really she could probably use another hour's worth of shuteye.

So anyway, now I'm reaping what I've sown. She expects me to lay down with her every time she's supposed to be going to sleep -- bedtime, naptime, mid-night wakeups... Typically it's just a tuck-in and a kiss and I'm outta there. The whole sympathetic back-rubbing thing was just a situation-based anomaly.

She should understand that, I mean she's going to be 2 three days from now. Right?

Yeah right. I should never have opened up this door. My wife is ready to kill me, and justifiably so.

It's getting easier though. Tonight was only about 5 minutes of crying, tops. That sounds bad but it was like 30 or so last night.

I feel bad for her big sister who shares the bedroom with her. Last night was so bad that she started crying too, just because she was overtired and wasn't being allowed to fall asleep.

So yeah, like (e:lauren) said yesterday or the day before, there's no point to this story.

Just a brain dump.

Fantasy Idol

As anyone who has read my various blogs over the past several years knows, I've become more and more of an Idol addict as each season passes.

I now know why. It fills the immediate void I feel at the conclusion of football season. Let me explain.

This year at work we have an Idol pool. We had one last year but it was pretty simplistic -- you paid $10 and were randomly hitched to one contestant for the duration of the competition. I had Chris Sligh. As cool and "indie" as he was, I knew I had didn't have a snowball's chance in H-E-double hockey sticks -- so it was hard to get excited since I knew him getting kicked to the curb was inevitable.

This year, though-- ahhh... this year. We're now using a point-based system. Each week we have 12 pts we can distribute among the contestants. Eventually we'll be weighting the different contestants but right now you are only allowed to assign 1 pt per contestant.

It definitely has a fantasy football feel to it, which as most folks know, is kinda sorta one of my big interests/addictions. So if FF is my crack, this show is my methadone to help get me at least get through the spring. Once summer comes, it's back to obsessing over player rankings and cheatsheets.

So basically I have to choose 12 contestants that I think will make it to the next round. Based on the past two nights, here are the wanna-be Idols I'm going with:

Guys
===
David Archuleta
Colton Berry
Robbie Carrico
Jason Castro
Michael Johns
Danny Noriega

Ladies
====
Asia'H Epperson
Alexandria Lushington
Ramiele Malubay
Syesha Mercado
Carly Smithson
Alaina Whitaker

If there's any other addicts out there that want to chime in, feel free!

As a side note: my money (the proverbial kind, that is) is on either David Archuleta or Michael Johns winning it all.

ACTUALLY, Janelle...

It is still Tuesday so that still makes only one late post I've had thus far (I think).

Today's fiasco: 174.

I really need to get my act together with this. This isn't exactly the resolution I had in mind!

The Benefit

Last night was great. We raised over $1400 for the Fahmer family and the Neonatal Unit at Childrens Hospital.

I wish I had brought my camera because the amount of sugary chocolate goodness was just ridiculous. Ridiculous.

Side note: I had the best cake I've ever had in my entire life last night. It was the red velvet from Olson's Bakery (in Williamsville I think).

It's never too late if you want to help out. Go to and follow the PayPal links if you want to assist them.

Out on a Friday night? What?

Last night was the first time I was out on a Friday night (or Saturday night, or any other night for that matter) past midnight in I don't know how long.

After dropping the kids off at my in-laws (hey I'm starting to like this), Chrissy and I hit Wegmans for some sushi. Yeah, I guess that's how married couples date sometimes. We then went home so she could continue studying for one of her teaching certification tests she has coming up in a week or two.

My best bud Jeremy is in from out of town so once Chrissy got settled in he swung by and the two of us went to visit my sister, who bartends at the Shannon Pub way down Niagara Falls Blvd. It was fun surprising her since she didn't know he was even in this weekend. My mom and then later my dad met up with us after a while to spend a little time because they wanted to see Jeremy and get caught up a little.

The first 10 years or so of my life were spent with he and his family living in the house directly behind my parents' on the other side of the block. We're almost exactly the same age so it was like we were fated to be best friends. His family moved to Virginia in 1986(?) but we've kept in contact ever since. Even though there were like 9 hours of car travel separating us, I still kind of feel like we grew up together.

Dude, the Shannon Pub is sweet. They had a live Celtic string band and then later bagpipes playing. Awesome. I don't really drink so it's not like I ever get out to experience that side of life too much. I knocked back three Kalibers (NA Guinness) while I was there though. Yummy.

Anyway, after that we hit the billiards place on Delaware just north of Sheridan Dr. I've never been there, and last week was the first time in almost 10 years that I've played pool so I was in the mood. I don't know why I don't play more often. It's pretty relaxing stuff.

But yeah it was nice to get out and spend some time with Jeremy. Our visits always seem too few and too far between. Tonight is the benefit for Jacob Fahmer but I'm hoping to hang out with him again tomorrow...
