Internet will or should never replace TV

Well maybe I should have put this under the TV topic but I'll keep it here. Every so often you will hear someone say the internet is the future of TV, I say no and it shouldn't be for a bunch of reasons. Yes I think it can be great for world events live 8 where you can watch a live performance in Germany then go to another band in say Canada. With Football starting up sports makes a good example of why.

Granted I don't have a huge TV but it is medium size. Manny Computer monitors are not big like they should be for sports events. I have heard there are TV's where you can see the blades of grass, man I wish I had one of those HD 42inch bad boys. Watching football on a little screen on my computer chair just isn't the same. Not to mention no matter what any one says the video on computers isn't as good. Not to mention often times the video doesn't take up the entire screen because you need to be able to Navigate. When I watch sports that is all I want to see and I want to be distracted by other stuff.

In terms of the money side the reason there is NFL games on TV is from companies like Pepsi who pay lots of money for ads and they are not the only ones who pay a lot of money for ads. I don't see any company paying that much money for something over the internet. I Could be wrong but I just don't see that happening. I also don't think that it should.

Yes I have gone back and watched a show I missed online and it was nice. It was in chapters but the video wasn't as good and it wasn't as fun to watch it in a video window. Yes you can sometimes make it take over the entire screen. but that still isn't the same as watching in the living room. Maybe if you had one of these new (seen an add for them) non keyboard computers it might be different. Not sure how it works but I guess everything is on a touch screen it does look pretty cool. But in that case I still think it is a bad idea. I want seperation between my TV and computer what if I get a virus and now not only can I not surf the web but that is how I get all my entertainment.

I also don't think it would Happen because of there being so many channels. If you have cable or the dish look at all the chanels there are and that isn't even all of them out there. Yes I do think it would be nice if Cable gave the al le carte option so you could only get the channels you wanted but then maybe some of the lesser ones would lose money.

The Poor: I know I just bashed them in a comment in (e:imk2) post. What I was trying to say is that there are a lot of people who abuse the system as opposed to the system helping them. But there are people who don't have the money for a computer or the internet and the TV they get is with rabbit ears. With TV going digital that is why they are giving money so people can get those converters. How often that scroll goes across the screen is a very telling sign of how many people don't have cable. But this brings up another point what if you have TV, Phone, and Internet all on the same line (one company) and something happens like a snow storm, hurricane or other thing. Well ever way to communicate has just been lost and you could still have power, how are you going to know what to do, how is anyone. But wait there is that poor guy next door who gets like one channel on his little TV, but what if that wasn't an option because all TV has gone to the net?

Some could say that Computer screens will go big and go HD and they might be right. Some might say that the software or what ever it is that hurts the quality of the video will get worked out and it will be just like watching your tv, and maybe some day it will. Some might say the prices will drop and everyone will have a computer and a good connection, that I really doubt. Some might say that NBC and HBO will jump to the internet. I sure hope they don't and they would be wise not to. You have to be loyal to the Medium you are a part of. I love the indemand services and think that is a great way to go. I don't think that having episodes that you can only see online is really a good idea. I understand that the way they are made in format might fit the internet better then the station and you might not be able to fit them in. But in time if you do enough of them you will put your self out of Buisness.

I do understand that Companies see a lot of promise on the internet and do have TV show content on the web. I do get that Utube is very popular and is good to watch videos on. I do get bands putting videos up there. But it still isn't the same as sitting alone or with 10 people in your living room watching something and I hope people understand that and advertisers understand that and that the internet is only used as a way to Help out with viewership. But that being said there would be two good things that might come out of TV going to the net. 1. the ratings would be exact and you would know how many people really watched it as opposed to the Current rating system that is kinda guess work. 2. You can watch something when you have time and if two shows would have been on at the same time now you could watch them both with out conflict. But that being said I don't think those two reasons alone are enough to move it to the web. You would lose the communty feel of some people talking about a show they watched last night..

Ok end of my rant.

Greatest Band Ever? Ok Favorite

So something I don't talk about here is my love of Metallica, not in the I want to blow them all kind of way. Oh and also not in the meeting them getting them to sign my arm then going to a Tattoo shop and getting that tattooed, as cool of an idea that is, yes I have seen that. I will admit there are some thing in the past that they have done that I don't don't like. I don't care what the writer of Metalapoclyse says I know there as some Metallica bashes in it, but that is ok. What I like about Metallica.

1. Bay Area Band
2. Like there sound
3. They change there sound
4. With all the different members the core is still the same
5. Except load and Reload each CD has its own sound
6. Amazing live show
7. After James got burned they had a part of their shows when the stage explodes
8. Their fuck you attitude

That is just what comes to mind off hand. They have this new CD coming out on the 12th of this month I can't wait to go out and get it. The video below is "The day that never comes" I like that is sounds like the "Old Metallica" in some parts and new in others it is a great song. Yes I like the old and the new. I'm not one of those metal heads that only likes metal and old style and thinks all these new bands suck, I like all kinds of music and I like how their newer stuff sounds. Once Rob joined the band I was wondering what his creative views if they would change there sound. Not sure about how much impact he had but of the 3 songs I've herd I like them and think it could be a very good CD.

Maybe this will work
"The Day that Never comes"

Now the tough Part is waiting to see if the tour will come to Buffalo. I would travel to see them since I have Before. My current choices are Chicago (would be cool to go there), Boston Might be nice. Yes I think Ackron, OH might be closer but I don't want to go there, Phily might get me killed, don't want to get lost there. I would assume that if they don't come to Buffalo maybe they would do Multiple days in Toronto either would be awesome. Well we shall see what happens. Hey I have to go see them they are from my other home town and they are part of my reason for my user name a lot of places

On a side note my spelling sucks sorry about that and the NFL Football season is a day away and they are having some live kick off thing on NBC and online I guess the entire game is also on. I love Football but not really ready for it and the change in weather it brings.

Weekend So Far UPDATED

Yesterday I had a great time at Project Independent Oh yeah and it was nice to see you before the show (e:tinypliny) . I haven't had time to download the pictures yet but maybe I can do that on Monday. It was great to go to a good Metal show. "His Name Was Yesterday" started the show I thought they where pretty good, they had a bunch of people who know who they were. The second Band was "Frailty" they didn't seem to be as well known I liked there set. The Band that I came to see was up next "As Summer Dies" it was my second time seeing them and I had to get some merch before the show I really enjoyed there set. The National Band who is on the entire tour is "Ninetail" I think of all the bands they have the most music on myspace, they are also the band who won last years so that is why they get the national tour they were very good. The Head liners of the show was STEMM. It has been a long time since I've seen them and they were very good. You might not know any of there music but if you watch UFC one of there songs is part of the UFC.

Today I went to the National Buffalo wing festival. I tried all sorts of different flavors of wings. Not sure As I had a favorite. I did get to see an eating contest. "The Black Widow" Sonya sorry don't know her last name won it. She also won the Chicken wing one yesterday. Tonight I'm guessing I'll try to get caught up on either Documentiers or generation Kill on HBO. I Hoping to remember to Watch Metalopclypse tonight since it is new, I missed it last week. Maybe I'll go see a movie or something down town on monday who knows. Hope everyones weekend is pretty good.

So Last Night I found out that I really Like IFC , It is one of those stations I kinda forget about. There was this movie called "When Will I be Loved", I admit it wasn't my thing per say, but it was worth it just for the Neve Cambell nude scenes. That was Followed by an interesting documentary about Larry flint. Even if you don't agree with his political views I think he really is a good fighter for free speach and for people not to give their own rights away. That was fallowed by this show called Z Rock. I thought it was pretty funny plus the show has real rock stars on it. The Premise is that there is this Brooklyn Rock band (they sound pretty good to me) but to pay the bills they Play kids shows. It is funny stuff. Like there is one scene where Sabsatchen bach loves there music so they are pumped but it is his kids who listen to the kids music in the car. As the rock band they sleep with these two groupies (did I forget to mention the sex stuff) so they latter go to this party and the groupies show up at the kids party they are related to the person who booked it, Hey I think the show is pretty funny.

Some Random Pictures from the Weekend so far.

The way that I first of as Summer Dies I'm not positive but I think it was on Poster for them performing as Park of a Queen City Roller Girls event of some kind or maybe it was something they where both going to be at I can't remember for sure, but they are a pretty good band I think the other pictures are of STemm well we shall see how the few I picked randomly look.

Shows coming back time

So it is about that time of the year when shows from last year start coming back on. Of course there are some new shows also. I wish I had the dates for when the shows I want to see come back on but here are the ones that I know of currently.

Bill Maher started last night: It was a good show but wish I had my own computer so I could watch the extra stuff on line.

Monday Prison Break returns: It was so good last year we will see this year.

Bones is on Wends. I think like prison break it might be on for 2 hours not sure what a great show. Then the week after HOUSE md is back on, what a great show that is.

Sunday the 7th is the Return Of Entourage. Also on HBO is a new series that looks pretty cool and has a lot of web tie ins called "True Blood" it is about so much more then Vampires but vampires come out to the public.

Not sure when it returns but Heroes will be back in September some time. That is an amazing show and look foreward to this season. NBC has another show that looks pretty good That I just blanked on the show and the actor where a guy lives two lives one as like a home dad and one as like a killer agent and nieither guy knows about the other and then some how one of them does find out, it looks really good.

NOt sure when Pushing Daisies returns but I really liked that show it was different and kinda dark and kinda fun all mixed together.

Knight Rider will be a series as I suspected and not just that 2 hour movie.

During "The Moment of Truth" there was an add on fox and one of the people in the footage was Kiefer so I assume that means 24 will be back but haven't looked into when yet. That was such a great show but the strike killed it, so we shall see.

Maybe when I get some more time I will update this post or maybe make a part 2 who knows.

Some Weekend Events

So this weekend is That National Buffalo wing fest. That is a pretty cool event and you can try all kinds of different wings. The only downside is some places you can't tell what kind of wings they have until you get close because of where they have their signs. There are other events they have like a chicken wing eating contest and last year I saw the guy perform as Elvis. It in the past has been a good time. They are having some extention of that Friday at Pearl St. Grill & Brewry I think it is bands and food and the money goes to the food bank. Jackdaw is playing someplace Saturday night I think it is at Sample on Allen St. I will be at Project Independent , It is a Metal showcase. There are a couple National Acts that I don't know , I guessing I will enjoy them and then I want to see Stemm , and As Summer Dies. I think it will be a great time but not sure that I want to eat a bunch of Chicken Wings before I go but maybe I will not sure.

closing the Summer Olympics

I was awake so I watched the closing stuff this morning on CBC. I will still watch some of the the stuff tonight. I thought some of the stuff was pretty cool. These pictures I assume will show up are from Yahoo's page. One reason I want to see it again is it would be interesting to hear the American Perspective and see if the Musical Number with like Jackie Chan as a group of people, and then the Jimmy Page on Guitar part sounds louder. That entire bus thing was pretty cool. It is only 4 years till London. Passes thing off to london seemed like what most of it was about.

Hopefully I didn't double post any pictures and I hope those are a good reflection from what I saw on TV.

Yesterday I did go to the Elmwood Festival of the arts for a couple hours and had a good time. I was hoping to see some people break out into a dance but when I was there I didn't see any. I did buy a couple things. I did see a couple (e:peeps) one I knew the face but not the name so sorry for not saying Hi. Then there was another one with a certain person. Again I was in line for food and at the other point when they were a head of me I was deciding if I shoul pick my art then eat or the other way around so sorry I didn't catch up. Hope people are having or had fun there.

Judging in sports

So Last Night I didn't see all of what I wanted to. Some of what I saw was Diving. It was interesting to hear the comentator not agree with some of the scores. I know there is some kinda Formula they use where the dive is scored based on how good it is and how Hard of a dive it is. But I also wonder if there is a wow factor that fits in. What I mean is that someone ones style plays into it also. Two people could do the same trick and do all the aspects pretty much the same and it will look better from some people. I also think that if the style is good enough it might cover some slight flaws. The thing that is the most important is that each judge is consistant on how the Judge. You not only see this hear but you see it in a lot of events in the X-games as well. Different tricks have a higher level of diffaculty and there are things that are important Like if you extend your legs all the way and if you really commit to it. But there is also that style factor meaning how you look in the air do you make it look easy or do you look stiff. I think this plays a big part in all the Gymnastic stuff also. I guess the question is , is a really tough performance with a flaw or little mistakes (yes they have mandatory deductions) Better then a great flawless performance that is easier. It is a tough call in any sport that is judged. I guess the point I'm getting to is that it will never be completely fair in any sport from Freestyle motor cross to Synchro Diving.

Music Is Art Again

So Not sure if the link above will work it is for the Myspace page of Dali's Ghost. I will admit I have only seen part of one of there shows and then listened to there music on myspace. They are one of the bands I'm looking forward to seeing at MIA. I have no idea how many songs they will get to do. One of the Members of the band (I don't know him) is related to one of my cousins husbands. The reason I'm reposting the MIA stuff is the last time I did it I think some of it got cut off by the box.

Music is Art Festival '08 Announced for Saturday September 13
at Albright Knox Art Gallery
All day event to feature music, dance, art, dj performance and more

Music is Art Founder and President Robby Takac today announced that the annual Music is Art Festival will take place Saturday, September 13 on the grounds of the Albright Knox Art Gallery. The event is absolutely free.

"I founded Music is Art in 2003 to bring together all genres of music and to link them to the other art forms in our area," Takac said. "What better way to show that music is art than to bring our festival to the world famous Albright Knox Art Gallery."

The all day festival - kicking off at 11 a.m. - will take place outdoors (rain or shine) on the Lincoln Parkway side of the gallery on three stages featuring live music, dance and theatre performance. The event will also feature live art creation, displayed art and photography, a kids village, a not for profit row, and a dj performance area. The Music is Art Student Battle of the Bands winners will play on the main stage, and this year the other finalists and winner of The Big Easy in Buffalo battle will also perform.

"I am excited that Music is Art continues to do good work in the community, and I would like to congratulate Robby Takac and the entire Music is Art team for continuing this great tradition of bringing all the arts together in this festival," Albright Knox Director Louis Grachos added.

Now in its sixth year the Festival has entertained thousands and again takes its place as one of the most innovative and anticipated cultural events of the year. The festival is one of seven core programs of Music is Art, including a music instrument drive currently taking place at 18 Starbucks locations until August 17. Information on Music is Art and its programs can be found at www.musicisart.org.

"We're happy to be partnering with the Albright Knox and we're thrilled to have the festival back in Buffalo," Takac concluded. "Everyone in invited to come out and join me on September 13!"

America's Fair Bus Derby

Yes getting to the fair was tough Yesterday I missed the 11am Bus. It turns out it wasn't labeled as a 14 or 36 but had some odd Ken/miliatary thin on it since the one that I caught had that on it at noon but I still had a good time. I went to see the bus Demolition Derby, they also had a rollover contest and figure 8 racing then after the figure 8 racing the non winning cars had a small demolition derby. I may include a few of those in the pictures.

I had a good time and I'm sure people who are going today will have a good time at the demolition derby. But for me it is time to get back to the Olympics and see what sports are on. Congratulations on making it to the bottom, yeah it isn't the same as one of (e:theecarey)'s epics, I have to admit there is a part of me that misses reading those. Well in any event Hope everyone has and had a great weekend.
