5 ways to ensure mediocrity

This article perfectly describes what is happening at my workplace right now. Numbers 2 and 5 hit the nail on the head. Someone give me the A Team theme song so I can play it on my way out the door!

5 Luckily isn't anything I have to deal with. I can see how that would cause all kinds of problems. Yes rules are important and people should do what they are supposed to, but going overboard is not good. I can see how it would tie in perfectly with 2 though, if in the past a company had problems. Say Person A does something, well instead of getting rid of person A the come up with some crazy rule. Wait now that I think of it there is an real life example of this (where I work is different then the main plant). People like to Make their Holidays longer then what they are so they would call in sick the day before and or the day after a holiday. Well when you have to produce a product and you are now 5 people short it fucks everything up. This lead to a rule If you call in sick a day before or after a holiday you lose payment for the holiday. Maybe a better idea would be to Just to fire problem employees. If you want an extra day off just ask.

I'm very glad I'm not a boss, I'm glad I don't have to try and come up with ways so, that stop people from abusing the system that doesn't hurt the people who don't abuse the system. Again I'm not defending your employer at all. I myself just from 2 and 5 can't imigine what working under those conditions would be like. I really can't.

ECSAF award

We had our end of year Student Affairs Forum luncheon today. I won the Sustainability Award for my work on starting a sustainability program in the residence halls this year. This makes me happy because it is the first time I have been recognized for my hard work over here. I can leave knowing I have TRULY left my mark on this place :) TGIT peeps!

I believe in education because I believe we can make the world a better place by giving people educational opportunities that would otherwise be denied them. I believed in what I was doing here.

Then a bunch of Americans came over and became consumed by the dark side of false power and money and got greedy. Because of you I have to leave. Staying in a corrupt environment is not an option to me, no matter how much money you throw at me. This makes me angry and sad. I wish I were empowered to do something about it. Making a statement by leaving is all I have.

Rory and I are departing Doha early August. If you have any desire to see a piece of the Middle East with free stay (hotels will run you at least $250 a night around here) you're more than welcome.
