noooooooooo!

Last year (or was it 2?) I went to Toronto with (e:imk2) to see UB40. It had been a while since I'd seen them. Of course I didn't GET to see them because there was a huge car accident on the QEW and we got there in time to hear like 3 songs, from the backstage door. I'm a huge fan. I have every album they made, even the pre-historic first release self-titled one.

Side note, do you know how UB40 got their name? The UB40 is a form. The Unemployment Benefit form 40 in the UK. All the band members were on unemployment when they decided to try to make a living in music.**

Anyway, Ali Campbell, aka the lead singer, has just announced he is resigning from the band!!!

Yes, some of the other members sing a few songs here and there. Yes, the music would still be good because they are great musicians. BUT....Ali just has one of those voices that is so distinct in it's tone that it just wouldn't be UB40 without him.

guitar hero 3

I bought guitar hero 3 the other day. I needed something new for my video gaming entertainment. It's SO much fun!!! There are 4 levels of difficulty: easy, medium, hard, expert. Easy is easy. Medium is tricky. Hard is almost fucking impossible. I haven't even bothered to look at expert yet.

You have to work your way through your career. You start off in a garage and get better gigs by playing well. Each level you have a face off with a celebrity. It has a great song list including 'The Metal' by Tenacious D!

So, my advice is, check it out, play hard, and be prepared when Croft returns to town!!!

That being said I would like to hear a real (not some band doing it in an interview on some MTV or Fuse show) review of it from someone in a band who plays guitar and plays the game. The reason I say that is there was a great South Park episode where none of the kids could give a crap about playing real guitar they only liked it because it was a video game and the guy who could play gutiar (randy i think) sucked at it. I know it is just a game and not the real thing and there I am going overboard again. That being said I have no musical talent at all. It also looks like a lot of fun also.

trip highlights

A few other shots from my surprise visit home this winter

I hid in a giant box to surprise my sister

hugs

my nephew can now run around and say 'uh-oh'

i played uno with bambi, she's a real card shark

i got my dad and brother 'gudtras' for christmas

a ton of soft balls for my nephew

and a personal sized hookah for carey

i didn't realize they keep the fountain running in mirror lake (at forest lawn) during winter

i think this one is pretty

holy RAIN batman!

I was going to post my new year photos but this is much more important. Mark your calendars folks, today in Doha, it RAINED. It rained ALL DAY LONG!!! I was so excited. I just stood out there looking toward the heavens letting it fall gently on my face. It's the very first day in my 7 months in Doha that I didn't have to wear my sunglasses.

my car is relatively clean now

this is why i had to buy a 4x4. this is an example of a road 'diversion'. they simply close the road where they need to do work and let you off road around it.
