Nuclear Umbrella

So, President-elect Obama will reportedly offer Israel a "Nuclear Umbrella" in the event that Iran strikes it with a Nuke. Anti-semites the world over are fuming. I have to say I'm surprised by this development. I thought Obama's typical response would be to bend over and spread 'em wide. I hope not - Medvedev is practically smirking at us.

I guess this is where I think it is going to go if Obama does make this offer - The Russians will agree to protect Iran from an Israeli attack, if they have not already, or make some other aggressive move. There will come a time when Israel doesn't ask our permission to protect themselves - they have already drawn up plans, as militaries tend to do, to handle any contingency.

Now the way news works lately is that it ends up in the media before the media even checks their facts, so it wouldn't surprise me to hear later that Obama never agreed to any such thing.

5 Stages of Grief

I'm coming to the realization it is more likely than not we will have an honest to God left winger in the White House, but mercifully the stages of grief are rolling by. I remember in 2004 (e:Terry) wrote a post saying essentially, "Well, the country voted for him" and trying his best to come to terms with things and move on. So, I'm going to do the same. Besides, this time I didn't feel I was choosing between the lesser of two evils. I don't love either guy but I don't hate them either.

Honestly if I were voting with my heart I would have voted for Senator Obama tonight. Up until the moment I entered the booth my heart was leading me to Obama. There are a number of things I absolutely love about him. His family situation was similar to mine. Josh and I were raised by a single parent, with the help of Grandparents. I understand very well the relationship he had with his Grandmother. I also like that he turned his unorthodox family situation into a desire to be a great father and husband someday, and he is a great family man. His heart is in the right place, and I think he will represent us well. After all, our superficial allies liking us is worthless unless it gains us something tangible. To this end I think he can be really effective.

In the end, the things I love about him have almost nothing to do with his job as US President. Anyway, what I'm really nervous about is the Senate outcome. A left wing supermajority would be a disaster with some of the most partisan and foolish Congressional leaders I can remember in charge. I'm praying America doesn't overreact. If they don't overreact we'll be fine. We won't be unified, we will still be as divided as ever, but we'll be able to live through what is going to be a very difficult Presidency no matter who wins the race. I know I don't want that job.

Palin Joke

I thought I would share a Palin joke I heard since sexism is funny, in certain cases of course. Obama supporters will love this one.

Q: What is the difference between Palin's mouth and her vagina?

A: What comes out of Palin's vagina is retarded only HALF the time.

Bada boom. Jokes like that make me laugh and cringe at the same time.

Why I Try To Stay Anon

Lexus with McCain/Palin bumper sticker vandalized

This is something I've thought about before - what are the odds of my property being vandalized if I had the wrong bumper sticker on the car, or the wrong sign on the yard? In this climate, in this neighborhood, I would give it about a 70/30 chance, which is why I don't advertise anything politically anywhere.

I also recall after the 2004 election when I got threatened and called a racist, homophobe, among other things. Since then I haven't put my face up on the site anymore, and I have been a lot more careful concerning talking about where in the neighborhood I live. Not that I would eschew my 2nd Amendment rights, but it's probably better to just avoid the confrontation.

Things are much worse now than in 2004. Hate crimes, violence on subways, people at rallies being worked up into a creepy froth. What's going to happen in 2012? All out pitchfork man hunts, depending on where you live? Fuck that. People need to get a grip.

For the record, I don't hate anyone.

Camille Paglia Does It Again

This article shocked me, so I'm absolutely certain it's going to shock you. Camille Paglia takes some swings and shows her independent streak yet again. The honesty is so refreshing in today's media environment. I don't agree with everything she says, but she is 110% correct about what motivates most people who talk dookie about Sarah Palin. She's dead-on, bullseye accurate about that and about the unacceptable turn towards ideological orthodoxy in certain circles. Look at the comments from the unstable peanut gallery - ouch! Be careful Camille, if you don't regurgitate the Kos line or the lies/innuendo you read in the Times, you might just be out of a job!

Article here - please aim your hate towards her, not me.

Sarah Palin

It has not even been 12 hours, and here are some of the things I've read about Sarah Palin from ordinary Liberals on the net already:

Yukon Barbie
Puppet (Her fisherman husband was the REAL governor)
Bad Mother
Bumpkin (Let's be honest - that's what this small state thing is)
Beauty Queen
Bad Judgment (didn't abort her down syndrome kid)
Hockey Mom (apparently this is a negative)

It pains me to admit that Hillary and Howard Wolflon are becoming more and more vindicated every day. They weren't just whining.

Now, I know not all of you agree with every point some yahoo makes on the net, so I hope we can nip some of this shit right at the bud. Barack tries so hard to get people to move beyond this type of behavior, so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be severely disappointed by this nonsense.

I thought that women were supposed to be free to make her own determinations, set her own course, make her own decisions, live as she wants to live without fear from retribution. Clearly this is an ideological argument. Let it be so instead of a socially acceptable sexist discussion about who is a barbie doll.

I also don't think we should be ruled strictly by coastal and major metro elites. If you actually believe this crap you never would have accepted a Governor of Arkansas. Just drop it. Emotion overcomes logic, and it is tragic.

No, I do not accept the bizarre premise that McCain is only seconds away from death. It is almost as if people are hoping for his death instead of being reasonable. This is unacceptable, and will never sway voters in your direction. Again, you disappoint your candidate. He would never make these suggestions himself.

Is her appointment a gimmick? Perhaps so, yes. Is she unacceptable as a hard core conservative? That's debatable. That is a valid discussion. Let's stick to that. Learn from your fucking candidate, please. Why does he make so much more sense to me than his supporters? If you think this type of discussion benefits you, go ahead and keep up with it, but I say it is a losing argument.

By the way, after next week, whether one recognizes it or not, nobody will care anymore about who was nominated for VP. The knee jerk is telling, however, and is not at all helpful to the country.

Lord Obama, Save Us From Your Followers

I've caught myself saying kind things about Obama lately, obviously because of his "play" to the center. I like reasonable people. The thing is, this candy coated wankfest really needs to end. You know what I'm talking about - the unicorn riding, animal magnet Obama parodied so well by JibJab.

Listen, I don't want to curb anyone's excitement, but does the question "Is Obama an enlightened being" really need to be asked? Rolling Stone already canonized him in March. This stuff is becoming more and more absurd. Look at this silly shit:

"Let me be completely clear: I'm not arguing some sort of utopian revolution, a big global group hug with Obama as some sort of happy hippie camp counselor."

BUUUUUT let's listen to the New Age spiritual advisors about Obama's deity-like countenance, not to be confused with the REAL nuts, the "coweringly religious." Psychiatrists attribute UFO abduction phenomena to "mass delusion" and I really have to get on my amateur shrink soap box and ask if these people are suffering from the same thing.

He's a guy. Really, that's what he is, honest. I bet if you prick his finger, he bleeds like you and me.

Tired of Politics

For the first time in, well, ever......I'm completely exhausted and disinterested. I'm tired of ageism, I'm tired of the lying and the half-truths, I'm tired of the blind hero worship, I'm tired of the racism, and I'm tired of politicians and the elites diddling themselves while the rest of us have real problems to contend with, now and in the near future. I have my doubts about what this country will look like in another 5 years, no matter who wins the election.

Just Flipped On Fox - Hillary Wins PA?

Huh? How could this be? Some people don't like being awkwardly thrown under the bus in Frisco? Are they on the Clinton payroll? What the heck is going on?

I Briefly Read Obama's Speech

I have to give it to the man, it's f**king brill. He says everything that needs to be said. Not saying I'm ready to come into the fold, but I have a lot of respect for someone who doesn't hide behind their campaign staff, deflect, counterattack, or otherwise avoid difficult moments.
