Silo City

I forgot I took pix until I saw (e:paul)'s!

Silo City art event was cool but the actual silos were amazing. Some of the art incorporated the silo echos - really incredible. I kept getting disoriented by the sound, it was all encompassing. (e:) terry got several compliments on his singing both with and without (e:enknot). I get to hear him noodle everyday - glad other folks got to share! And then we found a couple silos with broken off funnel-like bottoms and stuck our heads inside, (e:terry), alex and (e:enknot) sang. It was incredible and intense - I've never experienced anything like it. Someone took a recording-how did it turn out? They should clean some of them and charge for use. I'm pretty sure we'll all going to die of some disgusting bacterial infection from inhaling guano or cancer from the rust.

I want to know how the facilities actually functioned. There were intact ovens, big and little scoop pulleys, leftover bits of a conveyor system....all intriguing.

Birthday gaming

We celebrated (e:puddlediving)'s 39th birthday last night with gaming. This is 7 Wonders. Also played Alhambra. We have a new set of expansions for it but didn't use any of them because two players hadn't played the core game. Happy birthday, Lana!

Fireflies in the ANF

We took a camping trip in June to the Allegheny National Forest, Pennsylvania's only national forest, to see the synchronous fireflies during their mating season. These fireflies are best known in Asia and the Great Smokey Mountains but Allegheny Defense Project noticed them last year and brought researchers in to check 'em out this year.

They're amazing. Breath-taking amazing.

I didn't even try to take pix of the fireflies - incredibly difficult shooting conditions, much much harder than fireworks. So I took pix of camping.

A lovely wedding

A couple of the coop house kids got married on Thursday afternoon near the upper rapids at Niagara Falls State Park. A simple Episcopalian ceremony, a picnic, and croquet!

Thursday night ride

The music at the harbor thursday was excellent - arrested development. Had a great ride after - down to ship canal, then to zetti's on elmwood. We ran into kim k. on richmond, and I got a flat tire :-( the little rock is the culprit.

Twilight bike ride

The Thursday Harbor concert kinda sucked so we left and rode to the outer harbor, past Tifft Nature Preserve, down to the Ship Canal Commons (e:Terry), (e:KeithT) and I met back up with (e:Paul) & (e:Matthew) at the food truck afterparty on Mississippi for some munchies. The sunset was gorgeous and the General Mills plant smelled like Lucky Charms.

This week at home

I was only home Monday night to Wednesday night, but it was an emotional rollercoaster. My community has pulled together to support the fire victims and others affected by the losses, both financially and emotionally. From Sleezy Construction & Barbecue Co.'s chicken (all items donated, all sale proceeds go to the benefit), to a yard sale, bake sale, basketball tourney... my community rocks. I feel very guilty that I'm not there today.

Fire

My friend Patrick, his mom, his brother and his dog lost their house in a fire sunday, along with 3 other families. A little girl died. My community is rushing to support the families - a memorial sunday night that drew 225+ people, a fundraiser sunday with chicken barbecue, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, silent auction, bake sale... Patrick is kinda home based here at wendy's, along with his dog peewee. She's chilling in her two-story mansion.
